SL600 Help

I have a 2000 SL 600. I should say at this point I'M not mechanically inclined when it comes to these motors. Having said that, I noticed a small oil leak on my garage floor which I learned was coming from the oil sending unit. Took it to a reputable MB mechanic here in Northwest Florida and was told it would be a 2 hour job to replace the "o" ring. Just received a call from him saying that they cannot get the plastic part out that runs through the block without pulling the engine. While I know that Mercedes can be sticklers, its hard for me to believe it requires an engine pull to change a "o" ring. The mechanic tells me there is a bar in the way and the plastic part hits the bar prior to being fully removed from the block.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. The car is pristine with only 42K.

Thanks Plutoe. VIN WDBFA76F7YF189801. Unfortunately I do not have the part # for the "o" ring. All I know is in the oil sending unit either before or after the plastic part that enters the block. Can't get with the mechanic till tomorrow morning.

Thanks for all your help Plutoe. Unfortunately, I'm new to Northwest FL. and these guys came highly recommended. Live and learn I guess. When I picked up my vehicle this morning, there was no charge for labor, just the pan gasket. I leave for home, (Illinois) Saturday, so unfortunately the MB will sit in the garage till back in Sept.
I went to the site you recommended and it asked for an 8 letter username followed by a password. Your instructions were to enter WIS is that some mechanic lingo that they should know?
Sorry for being so ill informed, but I don't want to take it to the local MB dealer as I have had very bad experiences with them.
