SL/R129: 1997 sl 500 roadster tires?

Mercedes is recommending the Michelin Pilot MXM4 in 225/55R16 95H. I bought a set for my 1998 SL500 a few years ago when the old tires (Michelin Pilots that were almost original after MBUSA replaced the factory Perelli's which were garbage) began to dry rot. The recommendation for that tire is still current. I only have 35,000 miles on the car and ordered it new, delivered in November 1997

Many of the" tire ego group" have moved toward the low profile tires, changing the wheel size to 17 and 18 inch. With the profile decrease comes a width increase so the wheel well can become an issue with less front wheel turning space and even ( in my case ) internal surface of tire rubbing on the suspension dust baffle!
Another "tip of the hat " to the MB design team, also focuses on the smoother ride of the 225/55 tire. The taller sidewall takes the minor road bumps better than the short sidewalls.
I agree with Vetfed about the quality of the rubber manufacturers , but I have several cars on Perelli's but don't drive many miles. I buy because that's the way the vehicle was delivered.
Daily drivers get new rubber because of tread depth or years on the ground. old rubber is not like wine!
