Its working again.... Very odd.
I read in the owners manual that you needed to have the parking brake on in order to have it work. So I applied the parking brake and bam it worked. But I have never had to have the parking brake on before.
Also it always worked from inside, even without the parking brake.

MB needs to explain their "safety features" better, so it make sense to a normal human being why you can't do normal stuff like open the roof.

FOB batteries
I find that the remote top operation is pretty sensitive to battery strength. just reploaced them (batteries) 2nd time in 5+ years to get function back. PS use the two remotes and operate the lock/unlock from progressive distances to find weakest battery.

The Smartop module is a godsend for this. Among many other features (like one-touch up/down; no holding the switch), it opens the roof via the RF portion of the remote, click open or close three times, and presto! Best upgrade/mod for the R230 IMHO.
