SL/R230: 04'/05' SL600 or SL55

I prefer the 55, couple reasons. I wan the amg brakes adn suspension, and the badge doesnt hurt andi trust it as far as reliabilty better. BUT there is something about a v-12 that is awesome. for a daily, i'll take the 55 though ohh yeah, the body difference is huge to me, the 55 just looks better

You really need to drive them both yourself. We as owners have already made our decison and will always rationalize our choice.
I bought the 600 because it was faster and can make BIG power easy. I also like the interior better. The brakes are the same as the 55, only they branded with Merceds Benz instead of AMG.
The SL55 sounds better stock and has a more aggressive transmission and suspension.
But this is just me and I am not you, I also like SL55's they are all good. Drive them and choose.

Like blazeone said - you really need to drive both to figure it out. IMO, the SL600 is just a beast of a machine that still makes me smile everytime I drive it. I would never go back to a V8. Again, just my opinion, the 55 is more like a finely tuned machine where the 600 is just a big engine put in a heavy car to make it go fast.

2. Suspension is same (ABC)
3. SL600 can be had with AMG body kit (Like mine)
So, it really only comes down to engine choice and stock exhaust note.

I may be wrong, but i thought the abc tune as more agressive in the 55's, the 600's i have been in rode cushier.
and you can get an amg body kit but its still not an amg and the tailights on the amg's are waaay nicer in my opinion.
god i dont want to get into this again...BOTH CARS KICK ***, GET WHICHEVER IS A BETTER DEAL

The ABC tune I'll have to look up. My understanding is that they're identical, but not so in the SL500
The tail lights are definitely better on the AMG cars, no doubt about it.

Using my savvy internet sleuthing skills I have uncovered the mystery. AMG, did indeed tweak the ABC suspension.
So, to sum it up.
If:
Looks (to a point)
Handling
More sporty interior appointments
Exhaust note
are the most important to you, get the SL55
If:
Buttery smooth acceleration
Gobs and gobs of seemingly endless torque
More luxurious interior appointments
More bang for your buck tuning
are the most important to you, get the SL600
Can't go wrong with either, really.

SL55 AMG
Both are great cars...I advised our buddy BOR to get a 600 he was leaning toward a 55 for smoother power delivery as he's sharing the car with his wife...in the end both cars have advantages...for tops I would get a 65, but those ae still around $65 to $90K depending on years and miles...

She said that as insanely **** I am/was about the E-Class, there's no way she's even gonna risk even a bird pooping on this car on her watch.
More seat time for me.
