SL/R230: Batteries
I mentioned that to my dealer who said that this is not recommended as all the electronic systems would have to be reinitialised and this can be done only in their premises.
They said that I need to install a charger that will maintain the battery instead of disconnecting it. To do that they have to carry some electrical wiring in the car (1 hour job) and then via the lighter on the dashboard I'll have to connect the car to an electrical plug in my garage.
Anybody heard something about that ?
According to the user manuals, it seems that is is quite an easy issue to reinitialise.
Thanks for your valuable comments
In your case, if you are really only going to use the car for a couple of months a year, the trickle charge facility the dealer mentions is worth having. The problem is that if you allow a lead acid battery to completely discharge and leave it flat, it is often difficult to bring it back due to chemical changes in the battery.
So I think the charger facility would be worth having, you only need to charge the battery at a low current to keep it topped up.
I've decided to order the device. The dealer will install it end of May after my holiday trip to France and Spain. Just a few thousands of kilom. of pleasure in front of me from tomorrow.
Once install I'll comment on it
