I have a 2008 SL600 and use my iPhone 5. I don't think there were many changes from 2005. You will need to purchase the Bluetooth adapter from MB. I purchased the car new in 2009 with the Bluetooth adapter from day one and have used the Bluetooth adapter on several phones and have experienced no issues.

Mobridge Bluetooth
I have the Mobridge Bluetooth combo in my 06 sl500 which allows me to use my iPhone directly through the command unit, even the phonebook. I also have an iPod connected at the same time (in the glove box) This also gives me all of the music on the iPod that I can access through the CD changer interface.

Can you use MoBridge even if you don't have the phone option on your car? From what I'm getting at it seems you can have it to make in phone calls, if that the case I'd buy this unit instead of paying MB to charge me an arm and a leg for the set up

OMG why have I just learned this today?!?!?!, will I need to set up a mic for it, or is there one already re installed in my r230? I can't wait to use the stupid phone on my command unit

Rudeney, I think you meant A5 and not A%. I'll be putting in a new android unit and have been doing some research on the antenna system. Looking at the WIS wire diagram, power to the Left antenna amplifier and the Rear ant amp comes from Z4/7 fuse 57 on pin 2 of both. I believe pin A5 on the Radio is putting out a ground to pin 1 of both amps to complete the power circuit. Before removing the radio, I'm going to disconnect the cable on one of the amps and see if that's the case. If it is, I'll wire in a simple relay to change the -12vdc from the new radios antenna control wire, to a ground.

Considering a 2007 SL550 purchase and I see on the datacard is has "MOBILE PRE.-INSTALLATION (MTUS) USA/CANADA COMPL." Can anyone tell me if this is ready for use of the Bluetoorh "puck" or if this just means it would accept all the other (costly) electronics needed in 2007 to connect a cell to the COMAND unit?

I'm not sure of the wording on the datacard, but there are two things related to the phone interface. There is "prewiring" which means nothing other than it is ready for $1000+ of extra parts that get you ready to install the Bluetooth puck. If it actually has the phone system install, then you'll have the UHI connector in the center console, something like this:

The MY2009 facelift introduced the NTG 2.5 COMAND. It has Bluetooth hands-free built in - no adapters or pucks needed. Just go through the COMAND menus to pair your phone. This won;t do streaming, though. However, there is a solution for that. Your car also has the iPod interface, so you could get a BT streaming adapter that plugs into the 30-pin connector. I've not tried it myself, but I think this is what you need:

(Oh, and I promise, when I purchase this CoolStream unit, I will start a new thread to show what I did to install it and how it worked. Both with local mp3 files as well as streaming services such as Spotify.)

FYI, that link is generated by Amazon. Whenever you find an item on Amazon, there will be a few links for sharing on social media and email. That's the link they create when you click the email share button.
Please do share your results. My daughter drives the ML350 and only listens to streaming music. She uses the AUCX input, but BT would probably be easier. I've been considering buying one for her. Personally, I never stream anything in my car. Most of the time I just listen to Sirius, but I also have some songs in the Media Register (i.e. tracks loaded from an SD card onto the internal hard drive) and I also keep an old iPod video plugged into the connector in the center console.

Now that my SL is finally in my garage, I have started purchasing items to begin customising it. One of the first things, aside from hyper white headlights and side markers, will be to be able to stream Spotify. Do you still believe this is the item I need to do this? Just wanted to double check, since it was a few months since we had this discussion. Thanks in advance!

Yes, I think the CarPro device will do it. I finally (last week) bought one to put in the ML350 for the kid. I have tried it with my Android phone in both the ML and the SL (both have the same NTG 2.5 version of COMAND) and it works very well. All I had to do was plug it into the 30-pin iPod connector and pair to it from my phone. The pairing stays with the Carpro dongle, not the COMAND (presumably because COMAND has no idea it's talking Bluetooth - it thinks it's a hardwired iPod).
There are some limitations. You do not get any text display on the COMAND or MFD. It always lists four tracks and that's it. You can use the track skip buttons and it will send a forward/back command to whatever app is running on the phone. I don't have Spotify, but I do have the SIriusXM and Google Play Music apps. For music stored on my phone, it lets me skip forward and back among tracks. I don't have any playlist on my phone, so I could not test the playlist ckip function (again no display, just 4 generic "playlist" entries). On SiriusXM, skipping lets me change to the previous or next tracks (next works until "live" of course).
Even without the text display or playlist/channel selections, being able to use the steering wheel up/down buttons to skip tracks and not having to plug in an AUX wire make it very useful. Oh, and it does automatically re-pair when you start the car and begin playing my Google Music app (or at least it did on my Galaxy Note). Also, it can be simultaneously paired to COMAND for hands-free calling.
