New SL55 owner Boston area
Greetings all-
New SL55 owner here. Just joined the site but have been lurking for about a year and a half- every since I decided I was going to get one of these beasts. It took me this long to find one that was in decent shape and that I could afford.
Think I did OK (pics attached...maybe...first time uploading!). $32K but will need a left rear strut sometime soon (and ugh... yes I know the cost) and the consumer battery is suspect (looking at battery tender as we speak).
Got a couple of questions for those of you in the Boston / metro west area if I may:
1) ever worked with Eurocharged Boston? Thinking of ECU / TCU tune when my wallet recovers
2) Very interested in any recommendations for a general mechanic for Mercedes and more specifically this type of car.
3) Lastly, and I know this is a long shot, but my first mod is going to be the Quaife lsd ---anyone know of someone reasonably local that is reliable enough for this type of job?
Anyway, thanks. I've already learned a lot from you guys in my search for a car.
George

Your car's engine management controller with its ignition mapping is probably configured for 91-octane fuel. If you pump 93-octane you can realize a small horsepower and fuel efficiency gain by simply changing the setting in the controller to 93. A $300 Chinese-cloned or other SDS can accomplish this.

Hi neighbor, your car looks great. I just got my SL55 last October. Set me back 33K. Now I see them for less. I'm doing my own work. I thought starting once a week during the winter would keep the batteries up but I was wrong. Lost the front one $220, special made by Varta for the SL55 only. Only availible at dealers. THe rear one was starting to fade with a normal agm charger, but a boost to 14.4 volts with a charger for flooded batteries for 2-3 hours seems to have brought it back to 12.7 volts. Next winter it will stay on the charger.

Enjoy, beautiful car! I am in the boston area as well...if you plan to race your car at NE Dragway there are a few of us on the forum who go there from time to time...post up in the e55 section and you'll probably get some company!
There is another boston specific car blog that does a bunch of cars and coffee meets, but I think the rules prevent me from directing you there. Good guys, though. They go by the tongue in cheek name that is the nickname for "young upwardly mobile" racing .thing you catch fish in. Perhaps that does not violate the rules.
