ABC drive carefully lite on
A while back I asked a question about the red ABC lite coming on Several people responded, one in particular, with answers that explained the accumulators It had a diagram of the suspension system and about 18 pages of great information I have misplaced that web site Can anyone redirect me to that site

Just replace the 4 of them, as you replace check each one by placing a pencil in the threaded hole you will eventually find the blown one. But make sure you replace the front, back and pulse dampers as a set seeing your doing it. My theory is if the rubber was wearing on one well its most likely doing the same for others. MY Large Front Accumulator was the blown one, it takes the beating first hitting bumps.
Oh one other thing my mechanic who has since moved out of state was Mercedes Certified and was very knowledgeable, he swore it was my pump, I said I don't think so, as car builds pressure back, I explained the Accumulators are like your well house pump's Bladder tank, they actually supply the fluid pressure's. He was surprised when I showed him the pencil trick and said wow your right I think. Rodeo test after did prove it with all pressures back to normal.

Bob,
Thanks for the heads up on Husker Parts! I've added them to my list of part suppliers. A cursory part number price check shows them to be the lowest on OE quality replacement parts on the parts that I checked. I will start my price comparison shopping with them on my next part purchase for my W220.
I still have not pulled the trigger yet on an R230 purchase. Good top down weather where I live is gradually waning. Good deals are out there though as a lot of dealers,
(northern states) will have to store their R230's over the winter months so I might still be an owner soon!
Thanks again,
Bob

all you Mercedes owners,, use this stuff to save alot of money with this system. it saved me 5000 dollars when they started leak both front.

i used this stuff for more than 15 years,, had 4 SL cars, and dont drive a mile before i teflon treat engine, gearbox and aft shaft . even the ABC system and the steering pump that sit on same shaft ,get teflon treatment . with headers not heat covered , i still now, can not get my oil temp over 108 C if its 40 deegre outside ,does not matter.. was 116 C at max before . Get your oil use down use Royal Purple 5 - 40 teflon treatment and change to this oil , i gone down 4 times , less oil use

this stuff, soften up the rubber seals, and expand it little bit. Normaly this suspension start leak because seals dry out.
i drive the car over 2 years, no leak all systems work normal, no lights, no strange behaviour, this was a 2004 model , i am in contact with the guy that owns it now, and still all good, no issues this was 2009 leak started ,added stuff 2010 , now is 2015 , me or new owner not used a dollar on this system.
i dont make any money on this stuff, i just want help y guys out with tings i know for shure is working.
my new 2007 has the new improved system, as a preventive measure, the hydraulic system is teflon treated, so is powersteering

My ABC light is red, showing 0 bar of pressure in system, so I think my 3 year old, 25k mile tandem ABC pump has failed already.
I was thinking to do all the accumulators at the same time, are they a simple screw on fit, or do you need to drain the system and bleed after with the rodeo?
Do you know how to troubleshoot the valve blocks?

How do you detect the failed one using this method? Does it not bounce on the diaphragm or similar?

Turns out my problem was just that the ABC pump needed priming with a bit of air pressure. All codes are cleared and it does the rodeo nicely.

2006 SL65 AMG Noticed a leak in my garage. Then the ABC red indicator lights came on. I took to dealership and they said that both lines front to back were leaking, needed replaced. $1500 After 4 days they said they were having trouble bleeding the new lines and wanted to let it sit over the weekend to see if that would help. Monday afternoon they called and said the tandem pump was leaking and needed replaced. $3800 Anyone else familiar with this issue? Could it have been the pump all along and i didn't need the lines? Could they have damaged the pump while replacing lines?

I'd say it is possible, but not probable. Most likely your pump was bad, and the lines were sweating (common), or one blew, and they started at the lines.
Did the car ride rough with the red ABC warning? If so, it was likely due to low pressure, which causes the system to 'lock down'. No valves work in the system, but the pump still runs. This can lead to pump failure.
I believe a contributing factor is the main pump dampener, which may be on your pump, or in the rear of the left front wheel well. It removes pressures spikes from the system. If it fails the rest of the system is under stress, and also fails.

That's the way it usually occurs. A line blows. The pump has no fluid and grenades, Tiny metal particles then enter the system which eventually clog the valveblocks. Your car starts to have leak down issues when it is parked and or the car sits weird when you are driving.
Make sure they flush the system and change the pump. In fact, I would ask they flush it twice because those metal particles will grenade the second pump. Ask me how I know.......
