AMG vs. 600 Brakes

What is the difference between the AMG and 600 brakes? The MB literature describes the brakes exactly the same save for the paint on the caliper (red-AMG; silver-600). Visually, they look same. RennTech suggests that they are exactly the same too.

Any educated thoughts?

I’ve also read that the hardware is identical except for the paint. They certainly look like my old brakes. There might be a difference in software since SBC electronic brake control is tied in with stability control and traction control. I suspect stability and traction control might be tuned more aggressively on the AMG. As I commented in another post, I tried braking hard in the 600 at high speed and got a nice smooth quiet result, compared with the tire screech I would often get in my old 55. However that could also be the difference between the old Pirelli P-Zeros and the new Michelin Pilot Sports. The power of the brakes to haul the car down certainly feels the same. Although the 04 brake software is much smoother when coming to a stop than the 03, I think that’s due to the model year rather than the difference between the 55 and 600. For my own part, even if it turns out the AMG tuning is more aggressive I wouldn’t try to change the software on my car out of fear of affecting brake reliability. I think it’s bad enough we have electronic brakes in the first place. Can you imagine the headline: he died because of a software problem with his brakes. Now that I think of it, the possibility offers interesting opportunities for organized crime ...
