Careful with those youtube videos of large men pulling and flexing the door card like crazy. Like most other things on these cars - you don't want to force it, it's easy to remove once you find the right angle. Don't pry on plastic with a screwdriver.

My suspicion is that the metal rod has popped out of the white plastic lock bushing, which usually happens when the bushing breaks, although if the door panel was ever removed, it's possible that the rod was not fully snapped into the busing and just came loose. If it's a broken bushing, you can find those at most auto parts stores. Another possibility is that the metal handle itself is broken. if so, it is available as a separate part: A2307660124 (left) A2307660224 (right)

saw that the gold steel in the redbox was broken

Just for those who run into the same problem: after putting the door card back on, my interior handle felt slack and the door wouldn't open from inside. There's info about spindles and catches failing, but in my case I failed to feed the end of the outer bowden cable through a plastic catch in the door card. I had the door cards of before, but I just didn't recall that at all. Age, no doubt.

While opening the driver side door, I heard something pop. Now inner door handle is just flopping around.
I was able to remove the driver side door panel and found the spindle is broken
Can someone point me to instruction/video on how to replace it.
Purchased the spindle and will be delivered soon.
