Barrett-Jackson - Really?
2003 SL500 - $32,500:
http://www.barrett-jackson.com/Event...ERTIBLE-206560
The mileage isn't listed, but even if it's really low, that's a ridiculous price for this car! Crap, maybe I need to put my car in the B-J auction!

I guess the site crushed after you posted the link here
I actually saw cars on the opposite side of the price range - a dealer listed a 04 SL500 with about 40k miles for $18k (?) - should i go check it?

I love my '07 R230, but if BJ can get that kinda money or more for it ... I can fall outta love as quickly as I fall into it. I could see myself in an R231 ....

I saw watching the B-J auction on Velocity network this weekend and saw several SL500 "AMGs" go across the block. It amazes me at how these guys that announce the show can know such crazy details such as "this Camaro with the 427 is not facotry correct because only six were made with A/C and none came in moonlight moss green..." yet they don't know that sticking an AMG badge on an SL500 does not make it an "AMG"!
If you want to have some fun, go to the website and click on "results", then put in 2003-2012 Mercedes SL as a search and see what cars sell for. Some are reasonable prices, but many are just crazy high. Almost makes me want to take mine to the auction. I spent a day last week washing, claying, polishing and waxing and it looks damned good.

WOW!!! I can't hardly believe that. If mine can go for anything near that it is gone. There is a black one in there lot 524, 63k miles, 31k+$$. WOW! Gosh, I do believe though that some of our cars are a bit low on price for what they are and their original cost but this is really a shock.

I was a driver at the Mecum Houston auction this weekend. My first car was this 2005 SL500. Really nice. Got to $26,000 and stalled. No sale.

It must just be the auction environment that drives up prices. I guess a combination of the excitement in bidding and winning and bit of showing off in front of the crowds. Of course these prices include a 20% buyer's premium, but still that's part of what a bidder is willing to pay. And then, these cars are usually totally detailed and in very good condition, unlike some guy selling on Craig's List.

And I thought that these guys are crazy asking $39K for 2003 SL. As for me I wouldn't be caught dead in a car of that color, but I guess some like it very shiny.

Hey fellas! I just got some stuff in from B-J about these auction deals. They have a new one in the NE in just a bit so you might tune in. I did query some older results and generally they do seem high for what some may think, at least for my '03 car. If you sign up for the newsletter you can query the old results. They do seem much higher than MECUM data. Oh, well for what its worth.
