REAR VIEW MIRROR PROBLEM

hey there gentlemen
is there a fuse somewhere for the rear view mirror? none of the buttons on this mirror work and the compass doesn't work
https://preview.ibb.co/hS0kBR/766195830.jpg

I shouldn't have to manually adjust my mirror or is that typical? any ideas?
thank you

Does the mirror move on the memory button functions (door panel) if you knock it out of adjustment? The 3 buttons are for say, open garage door and other things, I only use one for the garage door. Can be a pain to program the garage function sometimes. Never saw one with a compass. Does it dim hi beam headlights at night automatically?

Mirror is manually adjusted. Those 3 buttons underneath are programmable buttons for opening garage doors.

and while we are at it
is there a way to turn the SOS visit shop error /message off for good? is there a devise?
coding?
hacking?

The early R230's had an automatic adjustment of the rearview mirror tied to seat memory. It became very problematic, so it was deleted.

As for disabling TeleAid (to clear that SOS message), that required SDS (Star Diagnosis). That's the diagnostic system the dealer uses. You can actually buy a Chinese clone version for yourself from $250-$1000, depending upon how much "work" you want too put into building it. $250 will buy you the hardware multiplexer and then you have to bring your own laptop, "find" and configure the software. $1000 will get you a turnkey system ready to use.

is there a way to firmly secure the mirror so it wouldn't tilt if you made a sharp turn? I don't know
if you hit a bump cause that's what I am experiencing
something is loose there; I seem to keep adjusting mirror

the compass is never on

there is potential
but it's not showing anything

could it be a fuse?

moretech 11-10-2017 11:42 AM

I'm afraid to say I do not know why mirror is loose, mine is very tight, may be a drive gear is broken inside the assembly. My car has no compass so I can't help you there. We must see if any other members respond.

The little round spot on the mirror is for auto-dimmimg of the rear view mirrors, it’s not a compass. Maybe that is the confusion?
As for the mirror being loose...id say something is broken. Mine is broken for the auto adjustment, but it does not flop around.

I have never heard of any compass?

Yes, You have to take the mirror off. There is a nut that you can tighten to solve that problem When I did mine I put some loctite on it.

is your compass working?

it's probably a fuse huh? does anybody know where this fuse is? if it is the fuse

TheSaint 11-21-2017 02:53 PM

I have never seen any compass on the SL, R230. Do you mean the little "spot" to the right hand side on the inside mirror?
See the red arrow on the picture

That "spot" is the sensor that dims/tip the inside mirror if any is driving behind you with all the light on when it is dark outside..

Some also misteces the "W" and "S" gear mode letters that shows in the instrument cluster for "stuck" compass headings
