Panoramic roof

I've searched the forums and read quite a bit about the panoramic roofs..

My main issue is that my new '11 Designo SL550 doesn't have the panoramic roof. The original owner was apparently wealthy enough to purchase a customized Designo edition SL, 100% entirely customized to his or her liking, but he chose to not spend the additional $1,500-2,000 for the panoramic roof? Who would do such a thing?! That's one of my most likeable features of this model!

So I'd like to know.. What are the chances of finding a panoramic roof from a junkyard and installing it afterwards? Obviously the paint/interior would have to be matched.. Hopefully I could find a matching interior color and just have to repaint the outside.

Here's a current listing on eBay (as of May 17th, 2018), is this a normal price that I should prepare myself for?

And also, from you guys who happen to have the panoramic roof.. Do you feel like it makes that much of a difference? Obviously I'm only wondering about your driving with the top on... Something I will be doing 'most' of the time, since I am situated in Sweden.

I regularly drive two SLs in Florida, one with and one without the panoramic roof. I personally prefer the non-panoramic as
I like the looks of the painted top and the Florida sun streams in too much. You can close the sun blocker on the panoramic,
but that defeats the purpose. In Florida, if the sun is out its warm enough for top down. Maybe the panoramic makes more
sense in colder climates.

NO LONGER ACTIVE
I'm in the same situation as you. I bought my SL and it did not have the pano roof. Of course I bought it to drive with the top down, but on days where it's too cold, or I'm taking a long trip on the freeway, it would be nice to have some more light in the cockpit.

That is actually a very good price. Most of the used ones do not come with the trim pieces.

Since you're in Sweden, I'd suggest you contact a German wrecking yard. The prices for German parts are significantly lower there, and in much greater supply. I'd bet you'd have a decent chance of even finding a color match.

This site will help you locate parts from wrecking yards across Germany. If you use Chrome to browse, you can have the site automatically translated to English.

Autoteile Schuck is one of the bigger wrecking yard chains. They have yards where you can either pull your own parts, or purchase pre-removed parts from their warehouses.
