Can you open a roof manually on a R230?
I just changed the locking cylinder and now I can't get the roof to open.
Roof switch keeps flashing and dash shows in operation?
No sound from pump.
Tried holding the contact switch closed and still no luck. Roof worked fine before. Just had a leaky cylinder.

Since all you did was change a cylinder, the obvious question is whether or not you installed the hydraulic lines correctly. At the cylinder the line labeled "30" goes to the cylinder's "piston" end port; the line labeled "90" goes to the "rod" end port. The other end of each hydraulic line terminates in the valve block's correspondingly-numbered port, of course.
The pump may not be running as a consequence of a limit switch being out of position. I suggest you completely close the roof and the trunk lid tubular frame and try again. If the roof switch continues to flash and the pump does not run, the I suggest you read codes and check the limit switch states with iCarsoft or Star Diagnosis.
Mercedes posted a 5-minute video on YouTube on how to manually operate a Vario roof, and I believe Rudeney has uploaded a documents from MBUSA detailing the procedure. A targeted search should find all in a reasonable time.

I wish I could close the top.
I can't do anything with it!
Is the left upper contact switch closed or open when the roof is locked?
I ask this because the roof is close to being locked but I can't move it.
It will not move no matter which position I put the contact switch. I can touch it because the headliner is off.

Thanks
ok so this is what’s going on wwhen I hit the vario roof switch to lower everything works trunk opens roll bar comes down. And the roof unlocks I can see that!! Ok now the roof won’t. One down at all Next I released the pump pressure so I can manually bring the top down and it came down with no issues manually. So I raised it manually again and locked everything up. Loses the pump motor screw and everything worked fine roll bar came up no problem 3 issue the windows won’t close in normal steps it displays vario roof retracting yet the roof is locked. I inspected the tubular micro and gheyre good I inspected the one by the right side windshield that’s good yet the windows won’t close completely 4. Last step I unplugged the mi to switch on the rollbar because star diagnostic said it might be that and nothing. I unplugged the vario roof module. And now the top goes down windows open so the top goes down yet the rollbar doesn’t work. Red light is on at the switch and the top is working good. Where or which is the actual. Roof closed recognized switch I have looked all owner and I saw. Someone say it’s on the left rear pillar next to the rollbar can u help. I know there’s s69/11 I know where that one is yet there’s another one in that area that I cannot go d help me thanks again

I am not a R230 roof hydrolics specialist, I would start by reading your fault codes with a descent OBD device. This can be a little sensor or a big hydrolic issue , Xentry will give you the best results

Do you have a Smart Top module? Normally, I don't think you will get that message without the switch pressed, but the Smart Top will operate or attempt to operate the roof after you release the switch. The good news is that I believe that everything is related. The roll bar and trunk release are both inhibited by roof operation, so once you fix that everything should be back to normal.
