"Rubberized" gear wheel timing M113?

Still trying to locate the cause of timing noise in a M113 engine. (30k miles)
Dealer states this noise is normal, "they all do that".
Im sure it's not.
Found this in the net, showing a gear wheel that lost parts of rubber.
Does anyone know about this issue and possible cause of noise?

Good find. Don't know anything about it, but it would cause some noise. The they all do it statement, is sometimes used to get out of a warranty repair.
