eBay Grille Fitment
Hello All,
has anyone here, ordered this grille, how was the fitment? My mechanic states that it doesn’t fit, it’s recessed too inward than the original, they had to do a glossy black vinyl wrap on the dirty empty space left. I just wanted to know if any of you encountered this issue or the mechanic actually break the bottom clips while removing the original grille😀

I initially tried to install it myself but had difficulty unlatching the bottom clip, so I decided to take it to the vinyl wrap shop, since they were going to wrap the two fading black pice in the rear window, I figured out that they’ll be able to do it since they wrap cars.

I bought the same exact grille and the fitment was fine as far as it not being recessed like your picture shows. There are 2 large plastic molded clips located at the bottom outer portion of the grille which clip onto the lip of the bumper to hold the lower portion of the grille in place. If the grille wasn't pulled forward enough during installation to have the lip snap into the grille clips, it would be recessed like your picture shows. Or your mechanic broke the clip(s). I didn't like the large gap this grille left between the top of the grille and the hood so I ordered a different style. Hope this helps.

I still haven’t checked it, but I’ll do it this weekend, he took my old grille off and immediately said that your new grille doesn’t fit, it was so odd that I told him to take it off but he insisted and went through the pains of wrapping the gap to color match the car, that’s why I think, he break of the clip when removing the old grille. I will know for sure on Saturday. Which one did you ended up getting? And let’s assume he breaks off that clip, how can I remedy it?
thanks...

I got the grille with more chrome slats than just the one in the center.
It got rid of that awful gap between the hood and the top of the grille that I mentioned in my first reply to you.
I'm looking at modifying that other grille to add the illuminated star emblem.
If it works out I'll post some pics of the result. Good luck with your fitment issue.
I attached a pic of the grille I decided to go with.
See ya,

I got a small crack in the top fin on the original grill. That material is so brittle that it will probably break in other places if I try to remove it to have it fixed. I maybe better of getting a new one.
I know you got yours on eBay. Can you please post the link or the name of the seller?

I bought my grille from an eBay seller who's name is: Kikysll.
This sell has a lot of different style grilles for Mercedes. They have outstanding reviews as well.
Hope you find what you need.

Here is the link to the one I bought from eBay:
The sellers other types can be navigated to from this link, I believe. You are interested in the one with more black and just one chrome horizontal slat. Good luck.

Aftermarket grille with illuminated star integrated
I managed to effectively install the 7.25 inch lighted star into an aftermarket grille purchased on eBay.
Although the result isn't perfect, the cosmetic blemishes and gorilla glue won't be visible since its the rear of the grille.
Here's a few pics of the final product. When I mount it and wire it up, I'm going to post some pictures.

He offers many different types. Be sure to get the one that comes with the 7.25 inch MB star emblem, because you'll have to remove that one (by untwisting it) then install the separately purchased illuminated star and insert that in its place. You will need to do a little grinding and trimming to get the lighted star in the grille, but it does fit in.
Hope this helps you.

I got the grille, removed the existing star and black plastic behind it. I will have to get creative with the Dremmel. Electrically, do you intend to wire it to the side parking lights?

Wiring lighted star emblem
It will fit in there. Just be patient and articulate so you end up with an OEM look.
As for the wiring, what I did was tap into the fog light wiring since its easily accessible (by removing the engine splash guard panel under car) and I wanted to have the ability to have the lighted star on (and fogs) without the headlights being on.
There is a DIY video if you are inclined to wire it to your fuse panel in the engine bay, but that's a lot of work in my opinion. Good luck with the installation.

That's right. When you select the parking light position on the headlight selector switch on the dash, when you pull that same knob out to turn your fogs on, the star will light as well.
