SL/R230: Better exhaust sound when cold?

SL 350 R230 (3.7L with AMG Speedshift autobox)
Better exhaust sound when cold?
SL 350.

I've noticed that from cold start, may car makes a lovely throaty sound, better then when warm as it gets quieter. Is that normal and why?

That's normal on pretty much all cars. As the metal heats up, you lose resonance.
