Used SL500 in dealers available now!
Well i was just at my dealers yesterday and happen to be checking out inventorys and saw one used silver R230 SL500. It had a set of Pirelli P-Zero Rosso tires and looked almost brand new! (even though it has a dealer paper work on the window saying it's used). Also saw about 4-5 SL500's brand new ones. so i guess they're finally starting to show up!

Dealers getting SL500's at auction
Apparently the big volume Mercedes dealers are picking up SL500's at auction. When I was traveling through the midwest last weekend I stopped at Knaus (spelling?) up in Lake Forest area. They had two on their way from a Florida auction that they apparently paid retail price to get. In turn they would be available to purchasers for a $20,000.00 premium with no wait. Otherwise, the wait list for the dealer inventory models was projected as two years out.
Not sure where the 2003 SL500's are coming from that get offered at auction, but assume there must be some dealers somewhere who don't have local buyers for their allocated inventory and would as soon get a quick profit as to risk flooring costs on a $100,000 vehicle????

I'll bet those "used" SLs had stickers higher than MSRP.
You probably know this already, but MB frowns upon dealer markups past MSRP. But, hey, a "used" car with 3 miles on it? That's not a dealer markup; that's a used car with a high profit margin.

Last week I traded my "used" (w/61 miles) '03 SL500 to a Authorized MB dealer for a 2002 CL55....
I talked to him today, he called wondering if I knew anyone looking for an '03 SL500 as he had three used on his floor. In all fairness, he was asking $20,000 over and when I asked what I could get it for if I wanted it, he said around MSRP +$10-12k.
This is more observational than "fact"...who knows if I were really interested whether or not he would have sold me the car for that or if I could have negotiated for an even better deal.
I have a feeling when the weather finally breaks and Spring really is "in the air", the market for these things will firm up a bit as we do like our toys.

Launch edition for $114,000.00
With an MSRP of $98,000 and luxury tax already paid, your estimate looks right on based on at least one ebay auction listing. The actual "buy it now price" of $114,000 is considerably south of $20,000 over MSRP and as a public auction is a good indication of a ceiling on what the market is right now for a 2003 500 SL.
The subject vehicle (a loaded Launch edition) is listed on ebay with 334 miles and allows a "buy it now" price of $114,000.00 Vehicle is located in Houston, Texas and can be seen at ebay #1825021940. Seller might actually take less as the vehicle has not yet met the reserve. [Disclaimer: I have no personal interest in this vehicle and have not had any contact with the seller]
