See you in spring

Today was the day to take her for a good spin, fill up the tank and put her on carpet tiles for the winter (if the weather behaves as it should). With a nearly full moon above the silent scenery I thought I’d take a picture. And annoy you guys with an off topic.

The sound of engine and exhaust music (I hope the link works: the file type is not accepted directly here).

Seeing you enjoying the driving makes me just as happy, because i can't drive now myself... (flu time...) love the scenery also! It does seem like a place where the car belongs! It always amazes me how a car can connect people with all kind of backgrounds

I feel sorry for you guys that have to store the toys for the winter. It rarely snows here, and there always seems to be no more than a 10-day stretch where I can't ride with the top down. Of course we have brutal summers and days where it's really too hot to drive with the top down.

Yup, rub it in, life's hard in the north. But then our plastics, leather and paint stay like new. All the time. We went to the Alps this summer, in a scorching heat wave, and I felt uncomfortably conscious about the car taking a UV+heat beating at the altitudes we travelled and stayed. Worth it, though.,

Yes, to each his own wherever you live. Here, where i'm at, it's 25 degrees Celsius during the day in almost middle of November

The worst is that there's no snow yet and it's not warm enough already to drive on summer tyres. But i think this year i'll orgazine some pics with top down in the snow

And over here in Arizona, cars with fabric convertible tops with no hardtop become winter cars...the 115° heat comes right through the top and plastic rear windows, making them uncomfortable, even with air conditioning.

I was actually surprised to find out, how narrow is the temperature range for comfortable top down driving. If it's less than 15C, it's quite cold actually and if it's over 27C it becomes rather uncomfortable, unless you drive on a highway.

I used to have a ski-suit in the trunk and drove from 8’C upwards. Not that fanatic anymore, but it WAS fun driving the Pagoda like that. The back of your head is the main obstacle for driving in the cold.

With my A209 CLK, I could enjoy driving it at temps in the upper 40's (Fahrenheit) as long as I had the rear windscreen in lace and the side windows raised (yeah, I know, die-hard convertible drivers hate to ride with the windows raised). It was much like driving a car with a large sunroof. There was very little wind inside the cabin, even at triple-digit (MPH) speeds on the freeway.

The R230 SL is totally different. Even with the windscreen and side windows raised, there is a huge amount of air turbulence in the cabin. Mine has the AIrScarf headrest heaters which are nice, but useless at anything over 25mph. I find that unless it;s sunny, I am not comfortable in the SL with the top down under about 60F.

That is interesting. I’d have thought those air scarfs really solve the cold draft issue. Bummer.

The AirScraf fans are just not strong enough to overcome the draft created when the car is moving at more than 20mph with the top down. Now, getting in a cold car with the roof closed - those heaters are great! They should put them in every car, not just convertibles.

This is what I primarily use it for as well.
