2005 R 230 SL350 (M112 3.7). Sold the 1966 W113 230SL recently
Profit

Daimler’s 2019 profit turned out 50% lower. And another thing that struck me as surprising is that the SL is no longer to be found on their Dutch corporate website.

Isn't the new SL supposed to be announced this Spring?

Yes, the new SL is basically a "convertible S-Class". If you want the successor to the SL roadster, you need to look at an AMG GT.

They're still thinking wheter to make new SL or not. As i understand, new sl will be 4-seater (at least 2+2) and without hard top. If there is any.

The S class coupe and cabriolet are going bye bye according to the online chatter and being replaced by the new SL supposedly which will be a 2+2 setup AND rumor has it there will be both fixed roof coupe and soft top convertible versions. The SL will shed some weight hopefully and be a more nimble car come 2021. The new SL will be based on the AMG GT platform according to news articles online. The SL being a 2 seater is redundant now with the AMG GT roadster. Obviously big differences between the two still, but with the AMG GT taking the two seater sports car role, it makes sense to axe the S coupe and throw two seats in the back of the SL (thereby increasing the buyer base).

It seems Mercedes and BMW are going two different paths: BMW axed the 6 series and moved it up market as the 8 series now (as a S coupe/convertible competitor) while Mercedes is getting rid of the S coupe/convertible and adding back seats to the SL (making it more closely competitive to the last gen 6 series). I personally like the move and another article I read stated a rumor that there may be a 4 seat variant based on the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe (I'd believe this more if the CLS had been discontinued then this would have taken it's role). Also, with the SL model, the 450 variant still comes into play for a lower entry point for buyers (versus it was never offered on the S coupe/convertible here in the states). Model ranges may be either 450 -> 53 -> 63 or similar to the previous lineup with 450 -> 560 -> 63. I doubt we will see a 600/65 again.

Mercedes has been pretty hush hush about all of this.

AMG GTS
I guess the S-Class Coupe and Convertible were overlapping with the SL. Maybe they'll make one model to cover all three?

Agree with bobterry99. I have a 2005 SL500 and a 2016 SL550 and while the R231 in technically better in every measurable way, I am much more emotionally attached to the R230

I never really warmed up to the R231. The latest models look a little better than the earlier ones, but still not as good as the R230.
