I installed Nitto Motivo tires on my SL55 and am happy with them. They are reasonably priced and provide a nice ride. I bought them from Discount Tire and they installed new pressure sensors that work fine.
Question are new sensors necessary? Can old sensors be reused?
Tire pressure sensors have batteries in them. The batteries are not replaceable, you have to replace the whole sensor when its battery runs out. So you can reuse pressure sensors, the risk is if a battery runs out you'll have to replace it which involves partially dismounting the tire from the rim.
The tricky part is that it's almost impossible to tell how much life your current sensors have left. Your pressure sensors aren't "on" all the time, they have internal switches that are activated by centrifugal force - they turn on only when the wheels are spinning. And, of course, batteries discharge over time just sitting on a shelf, too. So you can't just say that pressure sensors generally last a certain number of years, or a certain number of miles.
So you basically just have to decide if you want to take a chance that your current sensors still have a fair bit of life in them, or go ahead and replace them while you're getting new tires.
The top rated tire in the ultra high performance all-season category on tirerack is the Conti ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus. I have those in 17" on a base SL500 and in 19" staggered on my SL55. You can find cheaper tires, but they are under $200 in your size which isn't too bad for a top of the line tire.

On my ‘08 I installed Michelin pilot sport 4S high quality tire, my car is not a daily driver so no concern for all season. I wanted the best mix of wet/dry traction I could find and this was it. $1067/Tire rack to my mechanic’s door, another $125 on the car. Can’t go wrong

The R230 is a very different car and has very varied drivers.
My current SL550 came with Honkook Ventus Nobel 2 and I love them, most comfortable and Quietest performance tires I have ever owned but for me this is a Touring car. Those who consider it a Sports car may want to try something different.
I put new Michelin PS4 tires on replacing 7 year old Michelin tires. Within 3 days 1 of the old sensors went out.Discount tire replacement was 60$ and did not charge labor. If I had to do it again I would buy 4 sensors on line and have them replaced with the new tires.
