SL/R230: RADIO - intermittent operation

RADIO - intermittent operation
My radio/CD often does not work at the initial engine start-up. Many times it doesn't work until I've driven to a destination, turned off the vehicle to enter a business, then restart the vehicle for my return home or the next stop. Then it may work on subsequent restarts the rest of the day. The next day, it all repeats. What could cause this? I thought maybe it had to warm up, but I can drive for 30 minutes turning on, then off, then on again and it doesn't work.

Are you getting a consumers offline message? If your back battery is low voltage it can disable your radio and many other functions.

I had and have a similar problem. It seems to happen when the car has not been used and the consumer battery has run down. I have found that once the consumer (trunk) battery is fully charged the problem goes away. Another obsveration, the consumer battery runs down quickly - much more quickly than I would have expected My conclusion and solution is to put a trickle charger on the battery.
