Window tint or no?

Hi everyone

I am debating on tinting my windows or not. I have a 2011 sl550. I wanted the really light tint around 50% for all window except the windshield. I think the light tint looks classy. Helps keeps the heat out and also looks nice. I was wondering if it would look funny with the top down and windows up. Anyone have pictures of their sl with top down and windows up showing the tint? I wanted to see if it would look funny.

I think that it looks funny driving around in a convertible with the windows up, but that's my opinion and not a criticism. Living in Texas, it's almost mandatory to have tint on windows. Mine is like 20% (not 100% sure but I can guarantee that it's not legal) and it keeps the car much cooler than if I didn't have it.

I prefer a fairly dark tint on all windows on all my cars, it's sort of a privacy thing, also makes it harder for a shooter to see me, when taking aim. I live in a city where there are crazy people who think it's fun to shoot when they think you cut them off, etc., so I drive pretty nicely and try to be courteous, but you can't fix crazy. And the tint does help the vehicles stay a little cooler. A black S-Class with all blacked out windows is exclusive looking, that's how I roll. My SL55 is black as well with blacked out windows and black wheels, it thinks it's an SR-71 Blackbird. But I agree with the guy who says it looks funny with top down and windows up, it just seems like an oxymoron. LoL If I put the top down, the windows are down as well. But it's your car! So do what you feel. In my state, we are supposed to have a front license plate, but do I run the cars with those? No. I even quit buying the little license tab stickers, the cops don't seem to care anymore since that fake virus swept the country. My Maserati's rear plate displays tabs that say July 2020 that's how long it's been since I've paid for new tabs. They're supposed to use the money for roads, but most of it is being stolen somehow anyway. So why bother! Also in our state the voters demanded a $30 registration fee but the jerks in "charge" keep finding ways to add other taxes, anything to take peoples' money, so Hell no I ain't buying them. I did get a ticket for expired license tabs a year ago and I went to court and said, "I've been out of work because of covid". Judge says, "Dismissed." LoL But whatever you want to do with your car, do it, it's your car, so enjoy it! Anyone who doesn't like it, can stay on their bus. Get the tint you want, then post pics here!!!!

The best bet for maximum performance with lighter tints is if you go ceramic. The ceramic are not as dark as tint relative to the same percentage on a non-ceramic carbon tint. I like dark so I have 20% on the sides and rear of my vehicles, but have ceramic on the windshield very light (80% on the CLK and 70% on the SL).

I prefer a light tint, so you can still see in,

I don’t drive with the top down - windows up, but here you go.

I really prefer a very dark tint, as I'm shy and not looking to meet other motorists, LoL., also I have a cousin who is one of the most famous and recognizable people in the world, and I look a lot like him, although as we have aged a little, maybe a little less so than in earlier times. But for these reasons and privacy, I just feel more secure if the people outside the car can't easily look inside. Here's my S-Class, the dark is really perfect on this car. It has the pano roof so the entire roof is glass, you can tell from inside the car but on the outside it looks like a painted black roof! And that was how they did the roof from the factory. The windows are not that dark, but maybe close. This car also has the motorized privacy panels at the rear window and passenger door windows in the back seat, so rock stars in the back seat have privacy. I leave those up all the time.
