Need help with cup holder retrofit

I recently upgraded the Comand NTG 1 head unit in my SL500 and in doing so, can no longer fit my original cup holders that go under the head unit as it takes up that space too.

I know that some R230s came with an attachment point in the passenger seat that a cup holder could slot into. I've got the new trim for the seat that has the hole for it and the cup holder itself. But I can't figure out what part I need to accept the cup holder. I assumed it would be built into the seat frame but there's nothing under mine.

Pics for reference and bonus new head unit pic.

So that cup holder mount just sits in the hole with no support, is that what you've determined?

That seems to be a bit oversized headunit. Many headunits are "double DIN" in size; you can install a double-DIN cage into an R230 and still have the cup holders.
Here was my first replacement Headunit

I recently switched to a better headunit which still has Apple CarPlay, but also has the complete Torque Pro app built in monitor custom gauges, scan and reset codes and more.

I was referring to the cup holder that attaches (drops into a hole) in the base of the passenger seat.
Does it just go into the hole of the plastic seat bezel with no additional support or is there supposed to be a metal insert or other support for the cupholder mount?

The plastic skirt won't do, you indeed need an attachment to the frame.

My 2003 SL500 had the cupholder and mount on the floorboard but my 2009 SL550 is blank - floor mounted cupholder wasn't even an option. Short of welding in a plug, I don't think the floor mounted cupholder works. Cheers Socks

Your seat is missing the OEM mounting bracket needed for the seat‑mounted cup holder. The hole in the trim is just a placeholder, so without the bracket and hardware, the cup holder can’t be installed. You’ll need the full bracket assembly and cup holder insert, likely from a donor seat, or use an aftermarket solution elsewhere.
