Anyone interested in reducing your brake dust while increasing the control of your SL?

Racingbrake ET500 brake pads for SL/SLR non-sports model

Hi, Anyone interested in non-sports model brake pads?.

We received an inquiry from a non-sports model owner and upon checking it turns out the rear is the same as sports model, while the front can be modified from the sports model to fit.

We like to make them available if there is an interest from non sports owners.

Thanks

do you have the sports wheel package on your car?

did they squeak or was it just the dust?

I had the sports wheel package. I have changed the wheels for Vorsteiner 20" wheels. It was just brake dust that was driving me crazy with the OEM pads.

It will soon be two years since our ET500 was released.

Can SL550 owners please give a long term review on how ET500 brake pads performed so far.

Thanks

They are holding up great so far with no squeak, and little dust. I don't drive a lot of miles, but I do a lot of stop start in city driving. In September I had my MB inspection and they rated the pad life at 80% left.

just picked up a set of your 2270 rotors for my C55 with the slk55/clk55 6pot upgrade and included ET500 brake pads! Glad to finally get off my C55 OE rotors i modified to fit for the last 60k miles! interested to try your pads out, had EBC Red stuff for the last 60k miles. Lasted a good bit. THey squeaked for a good 10-20k miles though. very annoying but eventually subsided. Can't wait to try these out.

I have a 2013 SL550 and the OEM brake pads were driving me crazy with the amount of dust they produced after a few days of driving. I found this thread and decided to give Racing Brake pads a shot. After a week on the car, the wheels show very little dust. I drive about 50 miles per day of with a good amount of stop and go.

I would not hesitate to recommend the Racing Brake brake pads... they are great, no noise, good stopping power and very little dust.

I just picked up a '13 SL550 with the sport brakes and looking to reduce brake dust. Will these work with OEM rotors that have 25k miles on them or do I need to replace the rotors as well? Will only be putting on 4-5k miles a year and anticipate keeping the car no more than 2 years.

Our brake pad is made to replace OE pad for dust reduction and noise elimination. Work on OE rotors.

Can you post an update on how this RB rotors and pads combo performed after installed.

Did you bother to read the thread before posting? The dealer happily installed them on May 3rd 2014. No problem at all. The best mod I ever made to the car.

Reviving this old—but I feel very important—thread, I’d like to ask RacingBrake if these pads will fit my 2019 SL450. I have the Premium Pkg. which includes the upgraded brakes, which I BELIEVE, but do not know for sure, are the exact same as on the SL550.

PD1668 is what we made available for
  • SL550 (13-15 Sport)
  • S550 (14-17)
  • S550e (15-16)
https://www.racingbrake.com/Brake-Pa.../pd1688-35.htm

PD1670 is what we just found that uses in these models (including SL450)
  • SL550 (13-17) Non Sport
  • SL400 (15-16)
  • SL450 (2017+)
See the difference between two pads as per FMSI illustration:

These pads are a no-brainer for any SL driver that dislikes brake dust.

Thank you for your endorsement.

RB's low dust, non squeaking and liner modulation brake pads have helped Mercedes owners become happier drivers w/o having to deal with those common issues inherited from OE pads (dusty, squeaky, no modulation), and rotors (warping and wear out too fast). We don't just replicate from OE like others rather we make them better in fitment, performance, and durability.

We are acquiring an OE caliper for test fit shall find out soon. Looks like the same pad also fits SL500 (2015+)

Receive OE caliper and pad. Upon fitment verification we can confirm that our PD1688 was made for
S500e (15-16)
S550 (14-17)
SL550 (13-17) SPORT

It can also be used as PD1670 fits:
SL400 (15-16)
SL450 (2017+)
SL550 (13-17) NON SPORT

Here are some measurement to prove:
Caliper pad gap = 132.3mm
OE pad length = 131.3mm (1.0mm clearance)

RB pad length = 131.8mm (0.5mm clearance - Less play than OE)

Steve....I believe what Racing Brake is referring to with the term 'Sport' is MB's 'Sport Wheel Package' that included 19" AMG wheels, drilled front/rear rotors, and 'Mercedes Benz' is painted in white on the front brake calipers.. The 'Sport Wheel Package' was formerly an extra cost option when the 231 was first introduced, but has since become 'standard equipment' on the latest 231 models. .If you can see 'Mercedes-Benz' painted in white on your front brake calipers, then you have the 'Sport Wheel' setup.

As you can see from our posting detail:
Although sport (PD1688) and non-sport (PD1670) listed two different FMSI# (probably same as OE), but they are fully interchangeable as per our finding as documented above, and confirmation in our fitment test.

Fitment and performance is 100% guarantee and backed up by our decades of knowledge and experience. RB is the only brake company doesn't replicate from OE, we make them better in fitment, performed better and last much longer.

So, if I understand your post correctly, these pads fit ALL factory stock 2017+ SL450 models, right? Exactly what Racing Brake part numbers do I order for all four wheels? Thanks!

I just received a PM from Racing Brake telling me that they have pads for the FRONT of my 2019 SL450, but NOT for the rear. Does this make sense to anyone?

Another member has suggested a company called Porterfield Brakes, in Costa Mesa, CA, which just happens to be a few miles from my home. I believe I will give their pads a try. I will report how they work.

I cannot deal with a company that can’t supply pads for all four wheels on my car.
