so I finally got around to playing the DVD audio disc, I actually found it in the glove box with the other stuff that came with the car......
WOW what a difference! the sound is AMAZING !!
the rear speaker works!
I cannot believe one must play this specific disc to hear this stereo perform! B & O was a $6100 option and only sounds good with this type of disc! Is that pathetic or what?
There must be a way to unlock this stereo to sound like this all the time? No?
Maybe I should take it to a high end audio stereo shop?

Yes, but it's going to cost a huge amount for any type of DVD-A collection at $50 per DVD.
I Already have over 1200 songs on one memory stick in my SL and won't spend any money on DVD-A disc just to see how it sounds. Someone at Mercedes should have been demoted for such a outlandish decision.

Recalls are usually for safety or reliability reasons so I doubt MB will ever do anything to fix the problem and now I realize my salesman did not mention anything about "Surround Sound" in his sales pitch.
They need to change their advertising to .....this SL has a wonderful "surround system" but, but,but ....

In the UK - we get the standard factory MB system not even the HK which is an extra. I'm not a audiophile, I loaded the music I wanted onto the HDD (command system) in my SLK and it was more than adequate for my needs.
I couldn't see the added value in having a wonderful sound system in a car where I intend having the roof off as often as possible. I really don't like the look of the B&O speakers sticking up out of the dashboard either.
Reading these posts, I'm happy that I didn't shell out the extra $$$ to upgrade the sound system.
