Wheel fitment question

Hi Guys, wondering if I can get your help. I purchased a 2016 SL400 yesterday. Will I be able to fit the Rennen wheels from my 2014 CLS550 onto the SL? The wheels sizes is:

20x9 5x112 ET with 255/30/20 tires
20x10.5 5x112 ET with 295/25/20 tires

Thanks in advance.

Generally, yes. However, SL has a bit more room upfront for wider and lower offset (ET) wheels while CLS has a but more room in the back for wider and lower offset wheels. You did not provide ET numbers for your current wheels.

Thank you so much. The Rennens are ET32 for the 20x9 and ET25 for the 20x10.5. I will be replacing the stock 19" AMG wheels that came with the car

I see. Not ideal on SL: 9" wide et32 will be too much "in" upfront (by at least 10mm - similar to stock's), while 10.5" wide et25 with 295 tire will stick out at least 12mm (over 1/2") which is too much IMO. You would be much better of with 20x9 et25 or (even et20) front and 20x10.5 et32 rear (20x10 et28 with 285 tire or 20x10.5 et37 with 295 tire, would be ideal for the back).

I did a test fit this morning. You were spot on for the rear wheels. What do you think, does is it stick out too far?

Looks like it's too far out, as stated by ThreeMBs.

When the car is lowered, you can have a wider stance but if the car rides high it looks a bit awkward. Also, 19" wheels feel a touch too small for the car.

I went as far as ET28 in the rear (forged 19/9 & 20/10 AMG SL65 rims with H&R spacers to widen the stance. What you see is effectively an ET17 up front and ET28 in the rear.

Sorry don't have a better shot but I like the look :)

Personally I like the car best with 20" all around but really like the forged AMG wheels.

Think you are right. Looks like I will be selling some Rennen wheels and getting some new ones. Appreciate your inputs.

I appreciate all of your advice. Ended up getting 20" Vossens and keeping the same 30 and 35 profile. Big thanks to Alex at Need 4 Speed for the right setup.

Will I need spacers?

Hello all,

I purchased these wheels and tires the other day, and I'm wondering if I'll need spacers given that the offset is slightly greater than that of the stock 19" AMGs I'm currently running. Any input/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Those vossens are gorgeous, btw.

2013 SL550 20" Rims

I have come across some 20" S63 OEM AMG rims with tires. I would like to use them on my 2013 SL550 that currently have Staggered 19"rims 8.5" front and 9.5" Rear rtims.

The 20" rims are staggered the same 8.5"front and 9.5"rear with ET 35 both front and rear. The rims currently has 255 and 275 tires. Will this configuration fit my 2013 SL550.
Thanks

With tires, no. Just the rims, yes. If your car has the AMG sport wheel package, then the offset on your fronts are 35.5 and the rears are 48.5. So the wheels would be the same as having some spacers in the rear. Still manageable.
I wonder which S63 you are referring to? AFAIK, the W221 & W222 have different offsets than you mentioned.

So would I need to have spacers on the rear? +13?

No, the opposite. That wheel is equal to having a 13.5mm spacer on it. So if anything, add one to the front.

I am still not sure what wheels you are referring to. Have a pic for those S63? Fitment is one thing but the SL will not look great with older style AMG wheels IMO...

Thanks for showing the pics! If those are legit wheels (not replicas), their offset should be 43mm, not 35. You would need spacers for the front for sure...
If they are replicas, walk away.

These have been sold, but are the original specs: https://mbworld.org/forums/market/765378

Wolfman 05-11-2021 02:18 PM

Looking at them again, they somewhat look like replicas...
The inside (part numbers and markings) and of course the offset will tell you.

Gentlemen. Pardon my ignorance but what is meant by offset. :nix:

Hello everyone

Would it be possible to fit a 9.5jx20 et50 in the front ??

David2244 07-04-2021 04:36 PM

Would you care to expand on your question, by convention a 20 inch rim is more suited to the rear with a 19 inch on the front combination.

I have the combination you mentioned sir on 2013 sl63
Unfortunately I damaged the front rims
I have a set of mercedes rims 9.5j x 20 50ET
I'm pretty sure that the rear will be fine but will the front ones fit ?

Not without spacers! For 9.5" et50 wheels, 25mm spacers (resulting in et25) are required with 265/30-20 tires will fit front of SL63 with minimal poke. You may try 20mm spacers (resulting in et30) with 255/30-20 tire, it may or may not fit. Personally I would prefer 245/35-20 front tires, but not on 9.5" wide wheels. Before mounting a tire, try wheel with spacer first to make sure caliper is cleared. Then mount tire to make sure suspension is cleared.
