Conenience Steering Wheel Adjustment
2013 SL550 w/13K miles. Electric motor(s) enables one to enter and exit vehicle easily by moving steering wheel (1) for and aft and (2) up and down. This precise setting, along with seat location, etc can be committed to vehicles memory and called up when entering or leaving vehicle. In my situation, the up and down movement of the steering column is stuck in the up position. Anyone with similar experience? What is the problem? Besides going to dealer is there a simple solution?

Does the adjustment stalk on the column still allow you to move the steering wheel in and out or has that stopped also?

The stock moves up and down and at the bottom and top there is a "clicking" noise that, to me, sounds like an electrical contact being made. However, the steering column is stuck in the highest position, it can't be lowered. There are a number of posts on the c series forum referring to this problem in older vehicles but I am hoping that MB is on top of this issue and fixed the problem or that the technology/parts used in the SL is different from that used in the c series.

Sounds like a bad switch/relay/motor. Easy fix; hopefully under (extended) warranty...

I do have an extended warranty. After reading it over more thoroughly than when it was purchased, it seems as though this item should be covered. Will let you know.

Thanks for your comments Shot249 and Wolfman. Shot--do you recall what the problem was and how long dealer had your car?

Here's the latest and hopefully last entry for me on this issue. Have been to two MB dealers. First MB dealer's solution (out of state) was to replace the steering column asserting up and down motor had failed and the for and aft motor was on its way out. They couldn't get part before for I left the state. Back in VA showed local dealer paperwork provided by out of state dealer who, after review, found MB technical bulletins on this issue indicating solution was a software upgrade that prevents the steering wheel from reaching the top of its range. Going with the software upgrade and keeping my fingers crossed. Also, steering column and/or software upgrade are both covered under MB extended warranty.
