2013 SL550 Right Rear Turn signal fast blink and warning light

Got in the car Friday...changing lanes hit the blinker and got the fast blinking and Right Rear Turn Signal Error message on the dash. Went to Pep Boys to look up the bulb...it says LED in the catalog. Cannot find anything online really...

What am I replacing to fix this issue?

TIA
Mark

I know this is a bit of an old thread, but what did you end up needing to do to fix this?

Thanks for the reply, I actually was able to fix my issue (mine was with the front turn signal) by replacing the LED module that connects to the bottom of the headlight. Didn't cost me much.

I live in Dallas and presumably you do as well based on your username. If you'd like me to read and see if there are any codes on your SL with my new Star tool I wouldn't mind!

Hey DaThresh, I recently took my '13 sl550 to a car wash and had the same issue. Front turn signal is not working, can you show me/point me in the right direction to where I can order the LED module?

A link or part number would be very helpful!
Thank you

Here’s the online EPC for the front lights. I believe you’re talking about part #400 LED or #170 XENON depending on the lights on your car. You should verify by plugging in your VIN and comparing your current part number. There are variations of that part depending on date of mfg. too.

Thank you for the response.

The VIN is WDDJK7DA4DF003065
It's a '13 SL550
I've attached a few photo's for your reference.

Do you think it's #400 or #170 for right headlight?

Those are Bi-Xenon #170 is correct, but I would confirm with your old part # (there appear to be a couple versions). AND make sure that’s actually your issue. In that picture, it appears as if your lens is cloudy. As if there was moisture or water ingress in the headlight. It may have damaged the LED light bar within the headlight itself if this is the case.

Good Luck.

I ended up chatting with a few online mercedes benz part companies and they recommended this:

https://partsavatar.ca/2014-2015-min...gaAuqMEALw_wcB

---

you are correct about the moisture. The problem started when I visited a car wash. Initially the whole head light (the xenon blue lights) were not turning on due to moisture in the actual lens. After moisture disappeared (about a day) the lens turned on (as you can see in the photo #3) but not the right turn signal (orange lens that sits on top). It's been like that for almost a week.

Would there be another part as well I should look into?

You are correct, Bi-Xenon #170 is ordered ( https://partsavatar.ca/2014-2015-min...gaAuqMEALw_wcB )

The initial problem occurred after visiting a car wash. Built up moisture as you mentioned inside the lens (blue xenon light was not turning on), but after a day of moisture disappearing it turned on again (as you can see from photo number 3). However, the right turn signal hasn't turned on (which has been a week). Would there be another part I should order?

Unfortunately, that doesn’t bode well for your headlight assembly. The LED light bar within the headlight is integrated and a non replaceable. 🙁
You would have to replace the whole assembly. ( #10)

You have to check if the turn signal is getting voltage. It you get voltage past the control unit (#170) it’s most likely your LED’s inside the headlight assembly.
If light control unit (#170) has no voltage coming out of it (but voltage getting to it) then most likely the unit itself. I would also to record and clear any stored codes before doing all of this.

btw. I would only purchase the light control unit from an online Mercedes Dealer. Chances are the Dorman product is manufactured by Bosch or someone else and re-boxed, but at the price listed on that site I think you could get a genuine MBZ part from mboemparts.com or another Mercedes’ online dealer in Canada.

You could always get a used (but functional) headlight assembly from a wrecking yard. BUT I wouldn’t throw parts at the problem until I knew exactly what the problem is…

Good Luck
