Maximum Speed For Roof Operation

I'm considering buying a 2017 SL550. I have found multiple articles stating the roof can be raised or lowered at speeds up to 25 MPH. The seller tells me maximum speed is 3 MPH. When I drive this particular car it is indeed 3 MPH. My test drive was perfect, with the possible exception of the roof operation. So what does the forum think???? 25 MPH or 3 MPH in a 2017 SL550?

I believe it should be around 25 mph, my '16 is 0 mph. I still can't believe that is the case. My '14 Vette would work up to 30mph.

I believe it is supposed to be up to 25 mph if the system is activated below 3 mph. In other words if you are at a Red light, activate the roof, and then the light turns green you can keep activating the roof as you move forward. This way you do not **** off any drivers behind you at the light. Having said that my ‘17 will not do as advertised. I have to be stopped with my foot on the brake or in park for it to open or close. There must be a internal setting to change this but I never have the need to open or close while moving so it is a mute point for me.
PS-The SL is my favorite car to drive. Don’t let this one minor glitch keep you from getting one!

Soft tops can open faster and to higher speeds. That’s not due to brand but the complexity of the hydraulic gymnastics they have to perform and weight of the components. The force of the air just has a bigger impact.

I wonder if the R231 roof mechanism is still made by the same company as the R230. Used to be CTS, a company jointly founded by Mercedes and Porsche.
They made the folding roofs for about every convertible , including the Corvette
Now it’s owned by Magna...
