Does it appear that it might be easy to just unplug the thing, to see what the effect is?

I really do not understand disconnecting something that adds a pleasant purr to the SL. ON the 450 it is quite mellow....

I'm not saying to rip it out--not just yet anyway, I would just like to hear how the car sounds without it. I'll play with mine when it shows up.

The one on my 2017 SL only works for about 30-45 seconds on start up. It gives a smooth impressive sound on start up but quiets down quite soon.

Reviving this old thread because of that compressor that's also in the trunk. Looks like same one Raven85 asked about on THIS THREAD. Is it a Europe/UK thing? Don't have it in my US car with runflats....

I'm never sure if I'm hearing the exhaust or sound generator, It all sounds pretty good especially when I give it a little foot..

Its easy to check out if it’s just for startup as ItalianJoe stated. Believe that this is the case as he is a MB mechanic.
Just unplug it, drive with the top down and report back

Well, thank you so much, Konigstiger! As always, you provide information that seems almost impossible for the layman to get their hands on.

Now, to everyone else out there, do we think that if we simply remove fuse No. N10/1f22 that only the sound generator will be disabled? Does anyone see any potential problems in doing so? ItalianJoe???

I have a deposit on the Porsche Taycan. I hope they have the common sense not to add a sound generator or tail pipes to these cars......☹️

Does anybody know if the sound at 19:55 http://www.dougscore.info/watch/merc...018-car-review (providing exact time to spare you having to listen to Doug Demuro any more than absolutely necessary) is the exhaust noise synthesizer or the actual exhaust? Can you tell if it is in the sport or comfort settings?
Also does the SL400 sound the same?

Did you ever remove the fuse?

I have unplugged mine at the connection to the "sound enhancer" and have since plugged it back in. Not a huge difference in sound, and no ill effects from unplugging it as opposed to pulling a fuse, which I did not do.

My exhaust got much louder after adding headers & mid-pipes, and still has an extra 2x (or more) noise increase on cold start. I'm wondering if the "sound enhancer" scales up as the exhaust noise gets louder. My car is having the transmission worked on, but when it gets back, I'll try to either disconnect or pull the fuse and see what happens. I'd like to get rid of the crazy loud cold-start that I now have.

The SL63 should have no sound enhancer. The startup should is generated by opening the flaps fully and then closing them. There is an AMG Emotion Start which makes it yet louder, but that is only on newer models (MY19 or 20)

Using an EVM (exhaust valve module)
