He replied today with a quote. Over $1000 cheaper than my selling dealer. This forum is great. I take delivery tomorrow morning.

Welcome to the SL Fraternity !! I owned 5 Corvettes in my 30's and 40's. I could kick myself for not buying my SL until I was 71. Totally enjoyed my Corvettes but simply had no idea what I was missing until now. Your gonna love your new ride.

Thanks. A Corvette was on my bucket list so I bought my first and only one when I retired for the second time at 65. Now at 69 I'm moving to the "Gentleman's Roadster". A bit nervous about the potential cost of repairs and maintenance so I'm going to buy a 2 year extension of the CPO warranty. This forum is a great source of information and comraderie.

rmorin49 - CONGRATS as well on your purchase. I too moved on from a C7 Corvette after 3 years of ownership and have the pleasure of driving a MY17 CPO SL63. Know you will enjoy your Roadster. Include some pics when available. Well Done. Steve

Please give us your thoughts on the ride comfort and noise level of the PS-4’s. And what are you comparing them to? Thanks!

Well, I must be missing something...I'm only seeing three 18" wheels there. The 18" MB/AMG wheels that I was referring to are not present on that site, so I guess what I'm seeing there is "ALL the genuine MB 18-inch wheel options for the 231"...that they carry. Also, changing the country at the top of the page on that site just changes the pricing from euros to dollars; it doesn't actually move the physical location of the wheel house from the UK to the US . So, how much do these guys charge for shipping to the US?

I believe that those three are, indeed, the only MB approved/offered 18” wheels for the R231. There are no AMG 18’s for the car. Now, some folks have used wheels from a CLS or other MB models and those can work, but they are not specified by MB as usable on the R231.

Just add what you are considering to the shopping basket and it will show shipping charges. $265 shipping four wheels to US. And no sales tax or core charge by Mercedes. Not sure if any customs charges would apply, but looks like better price than from any discount MB parts supplier in US.

As the previous poster stated, the shipping charges to the USA are shown on the site once you have added something to your shopping cart and are preparing for checkout. I believe Streamliner recently ordered a new set of wheels from that site and therefore may be able to answer other questions that you may have.

I drove this car today. It drove like a tank. My Ram 1500 has a smoother ride. I presume that the ABC in a fourteen year old car has no bearing on a current R231. I'm still looking for a local car with ABC to test drive. I want to believe what all you advocates of ABC are praising, but I need empirical proof.

I bought a '15 CPO SL 400, no ABC. Compared to my Corvette it has a great ride. Has 19" Continental runflats on AMG 5 spoke wheels.

I had a 2004 SL500 for 12 years. The second best riding 2-seater I have ever owned and I’ve owned lots of them. There must have been a problem with this “tank.”

There are stories of pre-R231 SL’s with ABC that was not properly cared for, where the suspension was converted to springs, rather than spend the $$$ to repair the ABC. Maybe this one?

My wife LOVES the car! She hated the Corvette. Looking forward to many miles of happy driving. Still shopping for an extension of the CPO warranty. Have contacted 4 people. Waiting for replies. Plan to start making phone calls on Monday. This forum is great.

My wife hated my Corvettes as well. The last one was a 2003 50th Anniversary convertible with Magnetic Ride, which I thought rode nicely, looked conservative, etc. When I finally pressed her enough, she told me that it wasn’t so much the actual car she disliked, but the image that the Corvette is famous for, at least in California. Many women here see Vette owners as older lounge lizards, with the silk shirt unbuttoned, gold chains, too tight jeans and on the prowl. It doesn’t matter what the actual driver really looks like, the women don’t like being associated with guys driving Corvettes. She has loved all my SL’s, Porsche’s and even my old Chrysler Sebring convertible, but won’t ride in a Corvette. Women!

Been married to the same woman for 49 years this month. She is a dream wife, followed me around the world for 20+ years and essentially raised our kids because I was gone a lot for weeks at a time. She is happy and so am I. Going through a bit of an issue with the dealer. The wrap on the front of the car is yellowed and I want it removed. If they won't do it, I will invoke the 7 day return clause and ask for my money back. I think that will get their attention.

Dealer said they will remove the film on the car. I am shopping around for an installer to put Xpel Ultimate plus on the front bumper. It is free of any chips so I'd like to keep it that way.

I also got quotes from several dealers on the CPO extension. Jeff in Louisville was the cheapest so I will go with him as soon as the dealer documents the sale in the "system" so I show up as the owner. The wife and I took our first to down cruise tonight. She drove and loves the car. She hated the Corvette and never drove it in 4 years of ownership.
