SL/R231: Android Auto on 2017 SL-Class?

Android Auto on 2017 SL-Class?
I'm in the market for a 2017 SL450 or 550. Although Google and Mercedes-Benz both say that Android Auto is available with the 2017 model year and later, what I am noticing is that any cars I find with a build date before the last couple of months of 2016 have Apple Car Play only and do not have Android Auto. Any car I have found built later in the run has both.
My guess is that the Android Auto software simply wasn't fully ready and tested by the time they started building the 2017 models. I can't imagine that the physical COMAND hardware is actually any different.
So my question is, does anyone know if it is possible through a software update to add Android Auto to a 2017 SL that had only Apple Car Play at the time of build? Has anyone successfully done this (through the dealer or any other process)?

Well, your post just started my day off in a bad way. My 2017 Sl was built 07/16 and indeed it does not have Android. I had been using Apple Car Play successfully since I purchased the car but just switched to a Galaxy S10 Android phone 2 weeks ago. Had never tried the Galaxy in the SL until just now. So now there are at least 2 of us hopping there is a software update that will add Android to the phone.

There is a fix for this problem. A Mercedes dealer can run a program to download your current data configuration and send it to Germany where they will modify the program, and return it to your dealer who will install the modified program on your 2017 SL. This is a lengthy process but it does work; I had the dealer perform this on my car while it was covered under CPO. This will work on all early production 2017 SL's. Before going through this, purchase an AAWireless Two device from Amazon for $65. Plug it into the USB port in your center console and it might work. I use the AAWireless now, rather than the Android patch the dealer installed and it is superior to the Mercedes Android.
