SL/R231: Seeking Info on Deisigno Edition...

Does seem rather odd, but then again, maybe MB knows 'something' about ABC on the 231 that we just don't....
.

Patric, your car has spoiled me for the Blue DE. There are a couple of blue ones available right now, but having seen yours, I'd be afraid to buy a blue one for fear that after I did a red one would pop up. Honestly, I've seen a lot of sharp SLs in my search, but none prettier than yours. Congratulations. And I just noticed that it was exactly one year ago today that you posted those pics on the "spoiler" thread.

Special editions are visual editions. Eye Candy. The money is strictly in the interior and exterior options and wheels.
And while many would like to see loaded editions, that just doesn't happen as the price simply gets too expensive and MB can't charge as much for the exorbitant options price.
This is done not just on the SL but other models like the S-Class.
You will not find ABC or the B&O or Magic Sky in the SL. I remember the S-Class Concourse edition for $155k. Not even 4 seat climate control in that one. Not sure if it even had MBC on the RWD version.

One additional question for Patric, or anyone else with a DE: Does the top of that pretty Porcelain/Black steering wheel reflect distractingly in the windshield?

The only functional options thrown in would be Distronic Plus but I am not sure if some features cost money by default on the 450 vs being free on the 550 (Keyless Go, etc).
Other than that a total bare bone car with no options at all. It does look very nice with the forged wheels and chrome trim but I don't care for the piano white lacquer trim and black/white leather only steering wheel.

I haven’t noticed any reflection issues about the wheel in the windshield. Perhaps my sunglasses are too dark, LOL.
