As for your tires. I've only used Michelin Sports for our 06 SL. I typically research all online prices and my MB dealership price matches, so I have the work done by them. They understand how important it is to carefully mount and balance the tires so that the wheels and tire pressure sensors are not damaged.
Have you ever had your MB dealer do a 4 wheel alignment on your SL? Wondering what others have paid. I'm still reeling from the $364.90 I paid last week.

NO. My wife takes the car to the dealer and I do not want to know what things cost. She says she is going to get it a secret credit card just for the Benz. HAHA.... It is under the extended warranty for a couple or three years more so I don't worry about it now. I don't have anybody anywhere near me I would trust with it. We just take it to the dealer for work. She goes into the city sometimes and can drop it off and they give her a car to use, so it's handy. I don't like the city so it's ok with me.

That's because they don't come in a 285/30/19 size. You need to step up to 295/30/19. I'd do it even if the 285s were available. I wouldn't pick any other tire over the PS4S.

Panama,
If you have a Discount Tire in your area, I found them to be the best pricing. The Continental Extreme Contact Sport 295/35/19's for the two rear cost me $603.00 out the door.

Yes... I have one about 40 miles away. Thanks for the information. I do not HAVE to do anything right this minute and have time to decide and shop. I am more interested in getting the best tires I can for it.

Also, I am a little reluctant to let anybody but the dealer touch this car. Whenever I decide what tires I want and get some pricing, I am hopeful the dealer will get the tires I want and get a reasonable price. Right now, I am just lining up my ducks. Thank you for all your help. I am a little afraid of a $12 an hour guy back in the tire shop messing with this car.

I can certainly understand your thoughts about letting others handle your car. When I had my new wheels mounted on my SL, I went to a high end performance shop where they had a “touchless” tire mounting machine and Road Force balancing equipment. That said, when I got new tires on my recently departed 2018 S560, believe it or not, I went to Costco and I cannot say enough about the experience. The shop was clean and the operation was very professional. They covered my seats, carpet and steering wheel. The wheels were clean when I gave them the car and were clean when I got it back—which is actually pretty amazing. They filled the tires with nitrogen at no extra charge, as they do with every set of tires they install. I guess I would still take the SL, with the forged wheels back to the performance shop, but if the car still had the stock wheels, I would not hesitate to let Costco change the tires. It was an unexpected, very pleasant and money saving experience.

Here’s a photo the day I took delivery with the stock wheels.

Most MB and other new car dealers will match tire price quotes you get from COSTCO, Tire Rack, and other tire shops. Usually emailing them a copy of your quote is all they need. Of course, the dealer will match the tires but then likely charge much more for the installation, balancing, and alignment. I'm willing to pay a little extra to know the work is being done in the MB ship where they are much more familiar with the idiosyncrasies of our vehicle.

I went with the 295/35/20 because I wanted to fill the wheel well instead of inches showing within. Then I moved to the wheel spacers on both front and rear which also eliminated all the wheel well exposure.
As you can see in the attached photo, the 295/35/20 is hardly taller than the front yet fills the area and satisfies the look I wanted.

Well you did put erroneous info, probably a typo, after all. The picture above shows 19" wheels, but you continue to put down 20" tire size - 295/35/20 is 20" not 19", you do realize that, right? Of course I know that 295/35-20 at 28" diameter do not fit SL, while 295/35-19 (27" diameter) - that is what you have on your car - do.

Do you still have 255/35-19 on the front or went bigger (wider/taller)?

That looks great. What size spacers did you use on the car? Looks like she was lowered but I guess not. Great outcome without sacrificing ride quality

Panama,
I reached out to my stereo guru short time ago. I sent him all the information another MB owner posted about upgrading the sound system. He has not responded as of yet.
There is a post on the MB Forum here with photos detailing exactly what to do to enhance the sound system. The individual who made the post stated that this upgrade, and I agree, is not an easy task.
However, I intend to do it and will let you know.
Until then, try to find the post previously on this forum about the sound system. He did a great job explaining with photos.

Enjoy!

Spinalator,

I used 20 mm spacers for all four wheels. The company I went with was: www.4wheelspacers.com

They were not the cheapest but I feel I made the right choice in quality.
I did lower the vehicle using the Brabus lowering springs on all 4. The company I purchased the Brabus lowering springs were:

www.3WDistributing.com

The Photo will give you the end result if this is the look you are going for!

Good Luck!

That is exactly the look I'm looking for. Any sacrifice in ride quality?

Not really Spin.
I would say that it is like driving in the sport mode all the time while driving in the comfort mode.
The sport mode I still use most of the time. Yes it is a little less MB comfortable, however, to me, I like the stiffness and enjoy the ride.
There were rumors that installing the Brabus springs would greatly deteriorate the ride and also make a metal on metal knocking noise when hitting a bump, I have not heard that nor noticed any difference there.
All in all, I am glad I did lower the vehicle, put on the wheel spacers and put a larger size tire on the rear.

Good Luck!

Joe....
I have read pretty much everything I can find about improving or retrofitting the sound of the audio system including the threads here.

When I read your post, it sounded to me like you were looking at another solution to the problem besides what is here. I also read it to mean that you were going to do the retrofit yourself....by yourself...a DIY project type thing. That would have really interested me.

I just misunderstood what you meant. When you said you were going to do it....I thought you meant something different. All is good.

Thanks for this information. I've modded and lowered all my Vettes in the past but this is my first MB. I do love the more aggressive look....

Hey Panama,
No! Doing the stereo is way beyond me doing it! Lol.
It is definitely on here, let me look.

If not, I can email it to you. I copied and saved it.

Something you also may or may not want to consider is that the standard 285-series rear tires are actually smaller in diameter than the front 255s. Obviously, the car is engineered to function properly in this condition (though the optional rear 20" setup on the AMGs are a full inch taller), but it really offends my sensibilities. As some here have suggested, 295 rear tires are a no-brainer substitution for the standard 285s, with the added benefit that the 295s are virtually the same diameter as the 255 front tires...for those of you who are as ****-retentive as I am. Just saying...

When you mention stepping up to a 295, I'm assuming you mean 295/35/19 from the standard 285/30/19?
