SL/R231: Sl 550 Transmission remap
I've recently purchased a 231 SL500 (Uk550) 29k miles for a very good price so I wanted to upgrade it a little to make it feel a bit more aggressive as it's very tame right now.
One thing that really bugs me is the gearbox, when using the paddles the shifts are so delayed and the car seems to shift when it wants to not when commanded. Even in manual mode most auto cars that I have owned will hold the gears and hit the rev limiter but the SL shifts for you.
Has anyone managed to find a transmission tune or run a sl63 remap on the trans as they are the same 7g tronic box?
I am currently in talks with a tuner in the UK (Wrench Studios) who are planning to take the car in and write a bespoke map for this but its going to be expensive so if there's an off the shelf map out there that would be great.
Thanks,
Luke

First off, don't expect a sharp transmission response with very quick shift times. This transmission is not designed for that and the paddle delay is considered normal on these.
If you are in Drive and just use the paddles up or down, the car will not stay in manual for long and switch back to auto mode. You need to press the selector on the Center Console to M to engage manual shift and those gears should hold (if memory serves) but it will shift if redlining or going too low on the RPM.
Also, the SL63 does not use the same transmission; the pre-face lift AMG SL's use a 7 speed MCT (multi-clutch) transmission
