SL/R231: Software Update - Will I notice anything?

I am curious what others will chime in with on the answers you requested...

I would need the iOS car play.

I have now installed it in both my cars, the 2015 SL400 and the 2014 C350. Works beautifully.

NOTE: That video just shows how to access the engineering menu. I think your COMAND version can be found under menu item 3. I will confirm and update.

I drove my SUV today, but when I get home from work later I will check the SL to see which version I have. I watched the install video and it seemed straight forward at the start, but looked to get a little harder towards the middle/end. It is a little intimidating, because taking things apart on a car that costs as much as ours is nerve racking. I am willing to give it a try in order to get car play though...

2. A 2013 and a 2015 should be the same.

I will be placing my order this weekend likely. Not gonna lie, I am super nervous about doing this install. Breaking something, jacking up my radio so it doesn't even work anymore, breaking trim tabs, etc. I know I can do it if I just take my time, stay calm and don't psych myself out, but I am nervous. Back in the day I removed my front bumper and swapped my front head lights for halo lights on my then CLK 430. (see below picture) I really, really loved that CLK 430. The V8 was very responsive in such a little car and it sounded great. That car was totaled when a dump truck hit me on the highway back then. I would have never thought that I could have changed those lights alone, because I am in no way a mechanical type of guy, but I did it without a single issue. The difference with that car and this car is that car was paid off, so if I did screw something up the car could sit for a while until I could sort it out no problem. The Sl is more than double the price. (I had the original sticker from my CLK 430 and as it was optioned it was $55k.This is my main car that I am still paying for, so I would be pissed if I jacked up something and couldn't drive it, but still had to make monthly payments.
Anyway, I should be fine... I will watch more videos on the removal, etc. I might even get bold enough to take pics along the way to make an install post. I dunno. I am hoping I can do this (moving slowly) on one Sunday morning. Gonna look at all the tools, etc. I need so I can have everything at hand. Will post as I get into this. As always I appreciate the help here! One side question, which part of Maryland are you in?

Take pictures of the back of your radio before you disconnect anything if you can. Everything is color-coded, but when I was hooking stuff back up, there were some connections without matching cables and I couldn't remember if anything had been there beforehand. Apparently not, because everything works.
One of the videos shows the guy forcing the radio back in. I recommend NOT doing that. Also, removal of the glove box (which I didn't do) will give you access to routing the cables more easily, and maybe locating the decoder module there. I put the decoder in my glove box. There is a pre-cut knock-out in the side of the glove box on the left and toward the front. I was comfortable doing that in case I need to change dip switch settings or replace the decoder or anything else that might have gone wrong. On the C350, I did put the decoder box behind the passenger side panel.
I'll post some pics of my glove box.

Finished result. CarPlay screen.
Decoder and cable passthru. The decoder module is Velcroed to the inside of the glovebox to keep it in place.
Inside the center console showing the Aux cable and the iPhone cable. Having a leftover screw is a little disconcerting, but nothing has fallen apart yet.
A closer picture of where I drilled holes for the cables inside the center console. I did remove the console top and the connection box to drill the holes and route cables from the kit to the console. I used a 6' iPhone cable to have plenty of length.
