They look like a quality product, just make sure to compare pin spacing to get the correct one as there are different sizes. (not affiliated with seller)

Stumbled on this thread while figuring out why my caliper cover came off randomly. Realize the underlying issue may be the clips that are actually one-time use but doesn't seem to be replaced by any technicians that work on the brakes. I recently had my calipers refinished and I am guessing the clips we reused which is why I lost a cover. Now that I have a cover and want to be absolutely sure BOTH covers are tightly secured, what is the best way to ensure the clips/cover are secure to the caliper? I notice even with fitting on new clips/covers there is still some looseness and play which makes me think it will come off again. I'm actually able to pry the covers off with my hands which seems like it should not be that easy to come off. Thoughts as to what one can place inside the holes or place onto the 2 prongs that secure the cover/clip to the caliper? Is there some adhesive promoter I can spray on? Or some other substance I can apply before installing?

Clips are directional. Make sure they’re getting pushed in the right direction. They can be pulled off by hand normally, but should take some force to do so….
Though tough to bend, you can bend the teeth to give the clip more “bite”.

Good Luck

Thanks, @crconsulting . Curious - which direction should the clips go in? I currently see that that when I pulled the covers off, the clips have the angled-out prong side on the side of the cover (as opposed to being on the side going into the actual caliper). Photo attached

It’s been a while, but that look right…
The goal is for the directional teeth have to bite both the outer diameter of the dowel and inner diameter of the caliper bore.
Another issue is the cover is made out of very soft aluminum. They’re kind of a “one time use” part. So pulling them in and out of the brake caliper can eat into the soft aluminum dowels on the cover. You may have to bend the tabs a little to get them to bite more, but try to avoid pulling them in and out if possible.

I’ve had the best luck by putting the clips either half way in the bore, or halfway on the dowels, and THEN pushing the cover on. That has a tendency to seat the cover with the clips midway, biting the maximum amount. The goal is to get the clips to sit halfway on the dowels and halfway in the bore. The clips will not really bite into the cast iron as much as they bike into the soft aluminum cover. The way they are right now, the right one appears to be sitting too high on the dowels.

In reality, there should be no force pushing on the cover when it’s on the car. I think the clips/dowells sometimes corrode causing them to fail. The other issue I’ve run into is techs using caliper spreading tools to compress the piston, but mistakenly using the cover to push against. Then once they realize they f***ed up, they just push it back in haphazardly. Of course it takes a while before the cover falls off and/or the owner realizes it….

Hope that makes sense.

Good Luck.

Thanks for all the helpful guidance. I did pull the clips off 2-3 times and noticed it was cutting deeper into the dowels. What a terrible design to make the dowels out of such soft aluminum. When the new clips arrive, I'll insert them in a way where the clips (that make contact with the dowel) aren't resting on the "old" grooves created from previous installing. When I do install, I'll try it with the clips seated much lower on the dowels so that they're hanging off a bit before I push into the caliper.
