Vibration at low rpm

Over the last few months my 10 year old SL350 has developed an annoying vibration when the car is being driven very slowly or paused at junctions etc. The indeepndent Mercedes servicing garage I use has checked it out and confirmed no body parts are touching and all supports are OK. It seems to be associated with the tickover speed which is 600 rpm. Above that it seems to be fine. Apparently however tickover is set by the ECU so can't be adjusted. It's a low mileage car and I've only ever used Shell VPower. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Sounds like the rubber motor and transmission mounts are worn out. I do not know the specifics on your SL but some older designs are hollow rubber filled with fluid. Once they crack and the fluid runs out you can feel the vibration from the motor at idle.

Exactly. Both motor and transmission mounts were replaced on my SL with only 25K miles, under warranty. Vibrations are gone.

Do you have aftermarket wheels? If so check the wheel bearings...

Thanks but the vibration occurs when the car is stationary so the engine.gearbox mounts seem the most likely explanation even though they are supposed to have been checked out already

Ok. I didn’t catch the stationary mention.

You say it is vibrating at idle, have you lifted the bonnet and looked at the engine while at idle? Can you see it physically vibrate? Mileage and year?
