Tire Change kit for run flat equipped

Hello,

I have run flat tires. Cannot find a car jack, lug nut remover etc.

thinking about it, since there is no spare, what use would be of the tire change equipment.

Does that make sense?

I don't think any tire removal tools are supplied on cars with factory runflats. I think non US cars had goflats. YMMV

I have a Canadian Spec SL63 that came with run flats. A previous owner changed to non run flats and I hope the inflator kit that came with the car is up to the task if I ever have a problem.

The kits do expire, as they contain a chemical goop that fills in the tire, be sure to check the expiry. Luckily they are not expensive kits

I switched to goflats several years ago. Continental Extreme Contact DWS06+ HP All Seasons. Great tires. Have had several sets, had a set on my C7 Corvette. I carry a slime kit and a jack I bought for one of my BMWs. It works fine with the SL.

Since you don't have a spare, why would you need a jack or lug wrench?

I also carry a kit to plug a hole after removing the screw, nail, etc. I have found that it is often easier to remove the tire/wheel from the car to do this. Also, taking the weight off the tire while adding slime works better and the jack allows you to spin the tire without removing it from the car. YMMV

Absolutely! If I take a trip away from home, I will have a plug kit, bottle jack, and lug wrench. Here's the kit I carry.

When I sold my 2013 SL550, the buyer flew in from Texas and I picked him up at John Wayne Airport. Not wanting him to drive home, totally unprotected on the non-run flat tires I had installed, I gave him a newly purchased goop/inflator kit. He emailed when he got home, never needing the kit, but happy for the peace of mind. He loved the car as well.

I had sold my Mars Red 2004 SL500 that I had since new. Those all came with ABC as standard equipment. I wanted a new Mars Red one, but MB had discontinued the color. I saw this CPO that had everything but ABC, which became optional on the R231’s and bought it, thinking that I could live without ABC. WRONG! I could never come around to driving a car that didn’t ride as good as the older model. So, I sold it and ordered a white 2019 SL450 with ABC. The best riding convertible I have ever driven and I’ve come to love the white.

The first week I had my SL I cracked one of the OEM wheels. After UBER-ing home from the tire shop I bought a spare on eBay. The welded repair failed so the spare came in handy during the re-repair, if for no other reason than to get myself home and have the car sit in my own driveway rather than on a lift at the tire shop. It continued to provide valuable peace of mind during the weeks I waited for the 18" Madrus Stirling wheels I ordered to replace the 19" OEMs, during which I was adding air daily. I chose to stick with runflats on the 18s because of their stiffer sidewalls; I initially felt the decline in both ride and handling but I find the tradeoff worth it every time I hit a bump or poorly placed manhole. If the spare never leaves my garage again it will still have been worth the $275 or so it cost me.
