SL/R231: Ventilated seats not working.
First post here, been reading on the forum for some time. I just picked up my first ever Benz, and it’s a SL500. I’m super excited about it and over the moon. Drive is smooth as butter and more than enough power..even though I’m tuning it tomorrow (≈550hk).
I have two concerns I was wondering if you guys could help me with;
1. My ventilated seats do not work. When I press the button, nothing happens and there is no lights/indicators on the button lighting up. Where to start? Maybe a burnt fuse…(?)
2. I get a low battery message for my key fob. Is it just for me to replace the battery? Or is there a risk that the car will not recognize the fob and I’ll need to reconfigure it again?
Excuse my English as it’s not my first language.
Thanks all!
Greetings from Norway!
Welcome to the forum. Congratulations on your purchase. Many of my MB tech friends at a MB dealership say the R231 is one of the best model cars MB produced. I've had many SL's through the years, a 2013 SL550 with ABC, Magic Sky, B&O Sound, owned for 7 years and now have a 2020 with ABC, Magic Sky, B&O and Designo interior, MSRP was $136,110. I'm kind of a newbie here too, although I have been on another MB forum since 2005.and have been around MB's since the early 80's starting with what was referred to as Grey Market cars that were shipped from Europe to the USA requiring DOT & EPA conversions. With regards to your key fob, just replace the coin battery, you'll be good to go. Take the key blade out and insert it in the slot and the cover will lift off. Are both ventilated seats inop? I attached a PDF of the fuse chart so you can check it. Hopefully it's just the fuse. Incidentally, I see you're in Norway. My grandfather, Ole Magnussen, came from Oslo to the USA in the early 1900's as a child with his parents. I've never been to Norway but hopefully some day I'll get a chance go there. Keep us posted on what you find.

If you want to test if they work (and your blue lights come on), turn on the seat ventilation to max, put an opened up Kleenex on the seat back. It should stick to the seat. Turn off the ventilation and it’ll fall off.
Good Luck

Since car was new I could hear 3 levels of noise but, felt no real air blowing and kept complaining to the dealer but, they said tested and was working "no faults found".
BUT....if my back was hot found after driving for awhile with the ventilation on that my back cool and dry
So....the system is really well designed...instead of blowing cold air on your back and bottom it dries you off !
Pretty neat design !
