anyone have issues with seatbelt "secure"??

i have a 2015 SL550 and i have been experiencing the following as it relates to the driver's (left) side seat belt positive connection: when first inserting the belt into the female receiver all is well. if i don't kind of jiggle the seat belt receiving catch (female side) before inserting the driver's side seat belt, from time to time the engine quits and restarts while driving. all the error indicator lights flash on along with the seat belt indicator momentarily. it seems to happen most often on bumpy patches of road like going over railroad tracks, or uneven pavement. is this a common situation that can be easily remedied, or is a trip to the dealership required?? it certainly seems that there is a loose wire connection somewhere related to the female catch side of the seat belt assembly.
thanks in advance for the help.

steve

Sounds like your buckle might be an issue. Right way would be to scan it with XENTRY to confirm. I’m away so don’t have a copy of the EPC to get a part number for you, but you could probably look it up on a MB parts site like mboemparts.com

If you’re working blind without XENTRY and going to throw parts at it, I’d start there. It IS connected to the SRS system to your car. (see yellow connector)
Make sure to disconnect the battery if you do it yourself!

Good Luck.

Broken wires in the seat belt receiver is common in the W203 and W204 platforms. (Look it up on YouTube. FCP Euro has a video on replacing the buckle receiver.) HOWEVER, you usually get the airbag light to come on and do need a scan tool (XENTRY) to reset it after repairs.

The engine stopping and starting should have nothing to do with the seat belt. So it seems like there may be other root causes. As @crconsulting said, get XENTRY or another appropriate scan tool. You're going to need it.

If you release your seatbelt while driving I seriously doubt it would shut the engine off. Something else must be going on.

What you describe with the instrument cluster is basically a reboot. I had that problem and can attest that when the IC reboots the seat belt indicator is the last light to turn back off.

In my case it was a voltage drop issue. Yours may be similar but the voltage is dropping enough to interfere with the engine control unit causing a momentary shutdown of the engine. I suggest having the main battery tested.

many thanks for all the insights. sounds like a visit to the dealership might be the path of least resistance, lol. i do have a scan tool so i'll check that first of course. interestingly it just happened repeatedly on the day that i made the original post and it hasn't happened since.

thanks again for the input.

Sometime in the future I might need to remove the driver's seat of my car. Does anyone know how to remove the plastic cover on the seat where the belt anchorage point is.
