SL wheelbase similar to C2

In comparing the overall car size and wheel bases my SL is quite similar to my 1965 Corvette

For many years, I was deep into Corvettes. After I got my first SL, I would still go to the Corvette club meets on occasion, just to see old friends. I would point to my 450SL and tell them it was a “German Corvette.” I had a few more Corvettes over the years, but I always came back to the SL’s.

The Corvette with it’s 6.3 liter is much quicker off the line, no contest for an SL400, but for handling and top speed the SL is light years ahead. Two completely different animals!

I had a few big block mid-year Corvettes. The straight line performance was astonishing back then, but OH SO SCARY! The new cars do it without breaking a sweat. The old Corvettes did it with IMMENSE DRAMA and the thought that the clutch just might come flying through the cockpit. They were lovely cars for the time and they still turn my head. And, as much as I desire peace & quiet these days, the sound of the factory side pipes was music to my ears back then.

Drama in a C2 is always present. During my build i did include scatter shield so my legs are safe in case of a clutch explosion 😱.

I really miss my C7 but my wife doesn't. I bought the SL to please her and she is happy.

Happy wife, happy life ;-). Mine refuses to even get into a Corvette as she feels they project a certain image - a 60 year old still trying to be 20.

I have plenty of friends with them and while they do drive and look great, their profound cheapness and cost cutting always rubbed me the wrong way. GM just cannot produce a quality interior to save their lives.
