Anyone know what this part is???

I had my 4,500 mile 2019 SL450 in for service recently and took some photos while the panels were off. I was unhappy to see the finish on these two bars in less than perfect condition. I would like to either refinish them or replace them and was wondering just exactly what they are called and if they are easily removable. Thanks!

“Strut”
MB Part number: 2315200032

Comes off easily, couple of torx bolts. It’s aluminum. So it will probably oxidize again if you replace it. You could just have the existing “struts” powder painted in silver, but would probably have to bring it to an Indy, as I doubt dealer would bother to do something like that.

Good Luck

As always, you are an amazing wealth of knowledge and so generous with your time. Thank you very much. It appears that they can be had for under $100.00 for the pair, so I will probably have my newly found, wonderful indy shop replace them. Thanks again!

Those struts should be normally covered/protected by the plastic splash shield that is in place when not being worked on. Not sure anyone will ever see them. The staining and surface corrosion is unlikely to cause any physical or structural damage. What would be cool is to remove and clean them up, and then paint or powdercoat them your favorite color, such as the gold color of your calipers.
