Brake Pedal Spongey

I have a 1985 380SL: Can anyone tell me why is it when I first push the brake pedal down, it almost goes to the floor, then when I let it up and press again, it acts normal.

Is it air in the lines? I haven't touched the brakes to create this situation. Also, the ABS light comes on once in a while but now it is off.

Thanks for your insights!

Have you checked the brake fluid resevoir?
You may have developed a leak in the system if it is low ... it will need the brake lines bled out and a repair of the leak .
Fill up the res and take it ( very carefully )to your mechanic my friend.

^^+1 - a spongy brake pedal may be due to a low fluid level or air in the lines.
