SL/R107: Rich idle and economy gauge
#1
Rich idle and economy gauge
We have a 1985 380sl that will at most times run smoothly. However, increasingly, it has a rich idle sometimes in cold start and some while after a drive on the freeway a 65mph. Very rarely the engine will just turn off at a red light, when we're waiting in idle.
We've recently replaced the fuel pump but haven't gone deep into the vacuum system, or the o2 sensor.
When it has this rich idle, you can notice more engine throbbing than usual when idling at a red light, and the fuel economy gauge will be at 10% of the gauge towards red. Disengaging the gear at that moment, and shifting back to neutral will move the economy gauge to flat.
