Checking in from Auckland, New Zealand.
Recently bought a 1988 500SL which was delivered new to Hong Kong. Datacard confirms this and car conforms in all areas except paint code. DC says my car should be blue black 199o, whereas it is a mid/dark blue. The most obvious explanation is that it has been repainted but I don’t think that this is the case. Vendor described car as “Nautilus” blue which I assume was meant to be Nautical blue.
Original owner brought the car with him when he returned to NZ in 2002, and it has only had a couple of enthusiast/collector owners since. The paint/interior and other wear indicators appear entirely consistent with speedo reading of 61,000km.
Does anyone have any experience or comment on non-matching paint codes - Any thoughts appreciated
