SL/R107: 85 380SL tranny leak

85 380SL tranny leak
The car has been sitting about 4 weeks. The last time I drove it I noticed a puddle of red fluid. When I parked it I slipped a large sheet of cardboard under the car. This week I noticed the cardboard was soaked with a lot of transmission fluid and it appeared to still be actively leaking.
i jacked the car up and started to clean up the area so I could begin to make assessments. At this point it appears to be leaking from the left side of the tranny. Any ideas about what to focus on would be appreciated.
There appears to be a substantial shield around the transmission. Is this something I can remove with destabilizing the transmission?
With no more facts than what I have listed I wonder about the transmission coolant line, as I think of it as the weakest link, but at this point I have not located it. Guidance would be appreciated.

The bracket that goes under the trans pan can be removed. The other bracket is the trans support. If it is leaking on the side it has to be from on a seal; cooler line, modulator, rear drive shaft seal (running forward dripping off the brackets).
