Question Clicking At Start

Turning the key only offers a clicking sound. Engine does not turn over. I haven't started the car for a couple of weeks due to bad weather. Is the battery low (lights work)? If so, what do you recommend for some kind of battery trickel or other solution to get me through the winter?

Thanks!

won't start

I just bought a 84 Benz 380 SL in Florida moving it Eastcoast Canada.
I have the same problem once in a while.

It's been my experience that sounds like the silenoid for the starter.
Normally it's on top or on the side of starter.
You should be able to get a kit and rebuild it.
Not a big deal

Good Luck

84 Benz

A couple of tips on batteries; Nowdays, when they die, they die all of a sudden! , Also, if one tries to drive a car, especially at night using the headlights to get home, after 'jumping the car off', you will probably burn out the voltage regulator as it is trying to run all of the car's electrical drain PLUS charge the battery. Don't do it if you can avoid it. Either charge the battery completely before driving or get a new one. Of course, if you know how to repair the regulator, just pick one up at AutoZone on the way home.

I will try a trickle charge and then use a maintainer...

from here on out. That way I won't have to deal with a low battery again.
Any suggestions on recharging (it was a new battery)?

Thanks

"battery tender pro". This is simply the best battery charger/maintainer out there. I use it on my bikes and cars. One simply plugs it in and leaves it as long as you like as it has circuitry that shuts off completely at full charge. Unlike the trickle charger which will overcharge and ruin a battery if left unattended.

For wet cell (the most conventional battery) and matt type, one uses the more conventional charger. For the gel type batteries, you will have to purchase a different type charger.
