ABC and suspension trouble

A month ago I had an engine (yellow) warning light on (2003 SL55 AMG). My car was due for service any way and so I took it in. Euro 1,800 later, they said the air pump was faulty and he replaced it.

Two days later, I had the yellow engine sign again. Took it in and they said the new pump was faulty and they needed to replace it again.

Few days later, they called to say that there was trouble with the ABC system and as they needed to do work on it covered by a recall.

A week later, I picked up the car and they said it was all done (no charge).

Two miles down the road, the ABC warning message comes again and back I go.

They said that the problem now is not the ABC but my rear shocks need replacing.

Quote: Euro 5,000 for rear shocks only, 7,800 for all shocks replaced. The car is 2003, no longer under warranty and Mercedes said they would not contribute. 56,000 KM.

Is it normal that the shocks go at this stage? Is this related to the problems Mercedes have had with ABC? Should I be expecting Mercedes to do something to help with the cost? Is the quote reasonable (seems high). Should I do the 4 shocks or jut the two rear ones? This is in France.

Replies asap apprciated.

I also had my rear shocks replaced. They started too leak after about 50,000 Km. My contact at MB told me they would not take any of the cost since I have imported my car from Germany. He told me that if i would have bought it here in Sweden they would have replaced them for free..
I also contacted my insurance company and they told me the same thing:
"You bought the car in Germany therefore Your insurance don't cover the shocks and engine. If it was a Swedish sold car it would have been covered.."

I ended up spending 32 000 SEK (about 3200 EURO) so Your quote seems quite high.
Maybe You should contact Your insurance company and see if You have more luck then me.

Good luck.
